  • Need Traffic lawyer referral

    Hey guys,

Anyone know a good traffic lawyer? Got a speeding ticket, and have to attend court. Rather not skip a day of work. It's my first ticket so any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

If it's an mandatory appearance and your first ticket, call POINTS, they'll get the ticket reduced as well as your demerit points.

I've dealt with pointts before been pretty good but they say call for a consultation. Which you do, and they just ask for the ticket number and date and money, no free consultation, just pushy for money and no guarantee that they can actually do anything. They have got mine down but the only way I've ever gotten off is rescheduling the court date and going myself, officer didn't show.

IIRC, the date on the ticket isn't a court date, but a summons to go to the traffic court to plead at the counter. If you plead not guilty, they'll set a court date. If you pleaded guilty, they'll ask you to hang around to talk to the JP who, in all
likelihood will reduce your fine and possibly shave off a demerit point if you're nice about it. They process so many people in a day that they've got it down to a fine art. It's actually a pretty quick process. I haven't had a ticket for quite a few years but this is how I remember it playing out in the past.

I've used Pointts a few times and they always got the demerits knocked off and usually had the fine reduced or dropped completely.

Basically, if you can afford the time to go to the courthouse and be a gentleman about it... you can usually get the fine and points reduced yourself. On the other hand, if you can't spare the time or think it is something you'd rather pay for... call the Pointts people or whatever and they'll do it for you.

Unless it was a ticket for 50km/h+ over the speed limit, then it's a mandatory court date.

I should've explained "mandatory" in my post....how fast were you over the posted limit?

I'd only use Pointts if you know you don't have a leg to stand on to fight it. I've used them once and saved my butt.
