  • Warning about car break-ins in Vancouver

My Ford Escape has been broken into twice in the last month in different places.

Last night they used some sharp object to open the door.

Stole my dashcam, pocket knife (just bought it to replace the one that had been stolen in the previous break in a few weeks earlier.!), sunglasses, and a few other things. :(

Just a warning for people out there that if you have a lock like this car, you're apparently a target right now as they obviously have figured out some easy method to open the doors.

The only good point is that they don't need to break your windows.

It was broken into in my driveway in Port Coquitlam the first time, the second time last night was under the superstore in Richmond (no3 rd).

BTW the police told me that if I could identify the thief and provide video footage they would try to get him, otherwise they wouldn't bother - when did I become the police?

time for a hidden cam. the police do it with their bait cars.

That's life on the coast, don't keep valuables in your car and don't lock the door. A screw driver is all it takes to break into most cars.

I am honestly going to go that route. 1 dashcam for driving, 1 Hidden dashcam for keep track of stuff happening inside the car.

Every car I have owned that has spent time in Van has been broken into. Stupid stuff also. Though I would get smart, since most of the time it was for loose change, and would leave the ash tray and consoles open but no.... had the empty ashtray stolen out of my Westi. Some how hurts more when you know it was a fellow owner.

Aside from the dashcam, I never leave anything visible in the car. Looks like even that isn't going to be good enough anymore.

Start leaving yourself in there, with a gun.

Been contemplating it, hide in a big box in the back seat, with a peephole, and wait for the perp.
