  • Mis-quoted shipping dilemna

    Hey, quick poll for people.
I bought a part from a guy on audizine.

He quoted me the price $xxx including shipping. I said deal, paid the man and sat waiting. This was last Friday.
He texts me today saying he's been busy and finally shipped it today, also that the shipping estimator was incorrect and it will be an extra $20.

Now this has happened to me when I have been the seller, a year ago with some stuff and more recently with this avant I am parting out. Online quoted me x and it actually cost x to ship it. I cursed myself and ate the cost. Now I have a nice luggage scale and if I am worried I physically take it in to get quoted.

What would you guys do in both senarios.

as seller would you eat the cost/demand payment?

as buyer would you tell him to shove it/pay him gladly?

Take into account in this particular instance it took him over a week to finally ship my part as well.(Which maybe im being unreasonable but feel that's a long time seeing as I have tried to be extremely diligent about getting the part shipped out once paid with this part-out)

    Thoughts?

As the seller, and the fact it took me a week to ship it and communicate that....I'd eat the 20$...credibility as a seller is well worth it...

Yep. I've shipped things many times with shipping ending up being higher than expected. Total price was already agreed upon so the seller should eat it.

Depends, if the piece is $20 and the shipping was supposed to be $5, then an extra $20 is obviously something to be discussed. If the piece is $500 and it's $20 then the seller should assume responsibility.

To avoid this situation I usually take the expected price and the next price range, and provide a price range for shipping until it's confirmed.

Seller should eat the cost. It's up to him to give you a correct price for shipping and handling.

This is why I typically don't ship stuff. But if I do I always give them a price and tell them that it costs whatever it costs to ship. I let them do the shipping cost research and decide if it's OK for them.
