Also learning manual should be a requirement to get a licence. If you're too stupid to slow down in icy/snowy conditions, get off the road. If you're in the left lane even doing the limit, get off the road (or into the right lane). Confident/experienced drivers will do 120-130km/h all day anyway because of just that, they know what they're doing. It's not the speed that causes problems, it's the lack of knowledge and confidence in most drivers. Just my two cents.
I agree completely. I also learned to drive on a manual car (1978 fiat spyder) that I was scared of because it was my dads baby and he had bought it brand new from the showroom when it was new. We would head out to springbank where there were no other cars around and it was actually the best way to learn. Knowing how a car works more than just learning gas/break/steering in an auto is something I think everyone needs to learn. I think drivers would be way better off knowing how to drive manual and as a society we would have far better drivers and less accidents.

Haven't read the petition yet, but I'll sign it anyways.

Just got back from a two-week road trip through Montana, Idaho, Washington, BC and back home to AB. Plenty of sections in MT are 75 mph and there were sections of highway on Vancouver Island rated for 120 kmh. Looking at the roads and shoulders specifically, the infrastructure was indiscernible from HWY2.

More so than the more liberal speed limits, I believe what we really need on our roadways are third lanes designated for trucks towing trailers in excess of 10,000 lbs and to prohibit said trailers from driving in the leftmost lane. This will cut down on congestion and road rage incidents, unsafe passing and tailgating. They do this in Europe on the Autobahn and Autostrada, among others.

^^ I agree completely the infrastructure of highways in Canada needs to be upgraded to a 3 lane system and then sections where trucks can pass each other and not setup to help keep everything moving a lot better. Really on a highway like the QE2 there are two speeds, one above the speed limit in the fast lane and one around the speed limit in the slow lane and you mostly just have to go with one or the other and personally I doubt raising it by 10km/h will make all that much difference.

As a side note I saw more people pulled over for speeding in my first day being in Calgary than in my 3+ years living in greater London and that trend only continued over my visit.
