    Data Only Sims

    Well I am coming to Calgary for a visit shortly and was looking for some options on getting data on my phone. My UK provider actually offers a feature where when you are in certain countries on holiday you get to use your plan as normal at no extra charge, which is quite convenient, however Canada is not on the list and so data will cost me £6 a MB which I would like to avoid.

    Thus can anyone recommend a cheap/easy data option, I will not need a lot as will have Wifi at my home base but nice to keep in touch as I am out and about.

    blair when are you back?

    calgary has really good mesh wifi still that is easy to use or steal someones shaw account and try to use shaw's mesh

    i don't think you can get data only SIMS in a pay per use basis in canada yet.. we get screwed bad on mobile here..

    i could be wrong though

        Service can be spotty but this is the cheapest and easiest option.

            I moved to a country where it is not prohibitively expensive

            Thanks for the suggestions so far and I guess I am just spoiled now, unlimited everything in the UK and 16 other countries for me!

              If you want to try and get away with Shaw Go-WiFi hot spots i can add you to my network, everybody who has a shaw cable/internet bundle gets up to 6 people to add. They simply add your Wi-Fi MAC address to the account for the period you are in canada and your phone will auto connect. I am only using 2 of my 6 spots so you can try it out for a while and see how it goes.

                Yep, we are still 3rd world when it comes to cellphone plans.

                  This seems like it might be the best idea and lowest amount of bother for 10 days. I might just have to take you up on this!!

                      Sorry Ryan I am back starting this weekend and only till the 2nd. Looks like there might have to be a lot of meets in the coming weeks!
