  • Help me spend $650 on car parts!

I had an old TD Drivers Rewards credit card that I went to cancel, and was told that there was $650 of purchase points available to me!

I have 90 days to spend $650 on the s4!

    What do I get????

    Rear sway bar upgrade?
    New bike rack?
    Bucket seat?
Vinyl wrap materials (if I can convince them it is auto related)

Looking to the b5 guys for inspiration!

I just forked out the bones of a grand on a clutch, but paid cash, so I couldn't reoup costs there

Rear Sway bar & sub-frame mounts!! Hands down the best bang for your buck! And with the shitty exchange rate that should clear out points.

Shoot me a link to what you'd recommend, and I shall make it so!

      Easy home install?

Here are the links to the 034 kit. Easy install. Not sure if you still have the stock plastic rear sway bar links but replace them at the same time with the Metal ones ( Natty can get you them) While you have the trans out you should do the 4:1 centre diff mod. Only 70 bucks in parts.

Looks like I'll be going for the rear sway with subframe reinforcement.

Bob - Are the OE Steel (rather than plastic) links up to the task given the beefier sway strength? I'd like to save on the 034 kit, and maybe pickup some silicone hoses instead..

It is a bit more fun in the snow. Rear is a little happier, more controllable and predictable.

The OEM steel are fine and strong enough. The plastic ones will snap right away.

                    Thanks for the info.

I should have been paying attention to the points being accumulated on my card, as I would have bought the 034 Coil Swap Kit, rather than splicing/soldering into the loom. I'll be ripping it all apart during the evenings this week, in order to have it running 100% for the clutch swap on Saturday.

Did you buy the 4:1 washers online, or have them made up?

Re: Help me spend $650 on car parts!

I got the washers of the guy on VWvortex. Just Google it to get the links. I would hate to see what it would cost to have them made up in Calgary. I think they were $70 US shipped.

Too bad you are having difficulty with the Coil Swap. I hate soldering anything in an engine bay mostly because you never know what stresses you are putting on the rest of the harness. I would go to B&E and get some bare crimp connectors and crimp and solder all the connections with waterproof shrink. Do you have a good soldering station where you can control the heat to get nice fast, smooth shiny Joint?

Previously no, but I've gotten better unit since. I'll prep everything tonight, and start soldering tomorrow after work.
I bought a bag of crimp connections, but you know how it is with online opinions - you do it one way, and suddenly everyone says do it the other way.

For the sake of argument, I was thinking of crimping one bank, and soldering the other to see if one option throws faults vs the other.

If you do either way properly you shouldn't throw any faults.

I'm pretty proficient at soldering but I'd choose un-insulated butt connectors + shrink in this instance.

I did one bank tonight, removing all previous solder connections and replacing with butt connectors and waterproof heat shrink.

Tomorrow I'll continue and do the other bank and ICM area.
