Hey all looking to get my son into bmx, he's five, looking at places to get a bmx bike but it can only have rear hand controlled brakes. What places carry them for that age ?
Only place I can recommend that might possibly have this stuff for your kid is B&P cycle in forest lawn. I know that place is still around and I used to shop there back when I was a kid into BMX, but they have always had fantastic services and a huge variety of BMX bikes. Cyclepath used to be a good source back in the day as well but i'm not sure if they would have what you are looking for.

BowCycle, that's where I bought my bike, a dirt jumper because I was too tall for a BMX, anyway I was there just last week and saw a couple of BMX's for little ones, so you could try there.
Took him to a skate park last summer and he loved it, he's got the personality of no fear..
We went to B&P today and checked out bikes . They had a 16" street model called "little ripper " think thats probably best for him to start as a Racing bmx is only track usable and not good for street use. 'Tires and rims are different' going check out other places also
check out the bmx gallery. picked my old one up there.
I work at one of the larger shops in town and BMX gallery is real slick, the guys there are avid and know what they're talking about.
B&P would be the next option, perhaps a few more options in the 16" variety for the little guys and possible a little better price point selection. The gallery is a bit of a boutique.
BMX gallery for sure. I am friends with the owners, and can attest that they are all legit riders who have your best interest in mind when selling you a bike. They are also offering summer programs for new riders that include things like skatepark etiquette and safety, which is awesome. Definitely worth a trip over.
