Just somewhere to track the slow progress I've been having on these wheels.
I (like anyone else) have always loved RSs, and how they seem to make any car stand out in a crowd.
So this set in particular is direct BMW fitment, being the RS198
17"x8.5" et15 5x120.
The RS198 is slightly different from the typical setup, in that it shares the smaller face of the 16" 3 piece, as opposed to the more usual larger 17" face. It achieves the 17" diameter via double stepped lips & upsized barrels. These lips are really rare, and look great in proportion to the smaller face.
Anyways, I wasted no time in assessing their condition, and have already started on wheel #1.
The following shows a transition from as purchased, through stripping, and the various sanding efforts.
My intent was to see how much effort it would be, and it is a lot...what is clear, is that if I want a 10/10 finish, I'll need to have the edges of the lips touched up professionally due to curb rash.
Pondered on colour for about say...3 minutes. went with a nice (in my opinion) flat metallic bronze. I'm undecided whether I'll lacquer them yet...maybe..
And a little bit more polishing of the lip..
Went with a gloss lacquer, and also touched up the center caps..
