Ah cheap coilover season is almost upon us

I would recommend something in the mid to higher range if you want a good set that will last you for a while. A nice set of Bilstein coilovers adjusted to a reasonable height would be my recommendation

I think the big question that everyone is missing is.... How low are you planning on going with the coilovers. All suspension is designed for a specific amount of travel and to be set within a specific range. When you push the limits to up your street cred, shocks are going to blow no matter what coilover you buy. Just because it threads that low, it doesn't mean that it was designed to go that low. BTW out of every coilover set up I have owned/driven on STANCE coilovers is hands down the best. Why??? because they offer adjustability at the lower mount so that your shock travel does not suffer. BC racing coilovers takes #2 as the best bang for your $$. Height and dampening adjustability is key.

I think that in general you get what you pay for.

I opted for KW after going for a ride in a buddy's car with KW v2... it was so firm and smooth and controlled. Just absorbed Edmonton roads, and begged/dared you for more on twisty mountain roads.

Even though my v3's have no warranty (race only) their reputation is beyond reproach. I won't be scraping control arms low, either, so that helps. Plus, they're still built in Germany and not outsourced to China like many others (including the lower tier v1). In my opinion, that would be a factor worth considering alongside cost.

I am not looking to go low at all on this setup I want to see the tops of my tires still. I had a set of PSS on my mk2 and they were awesome! !! Never had a issue with them with over the 90k I put on them.

I would like to find someone who is running the PSS setup on there mk4 to see how they ride.

Quite firm compared to Koni yellows, for example, but not harsh in any way at all... haven't hit corners hard yet for the sake of my Nokians but the pss9's are really itching for it. Love them so far.

I would totally give you a ride if my old jetta isn't wrecked but I can tell you that they handle amazing and rides good, the ride is firm but not rough or harsh, my vr6 Gli dampening was on 3F 4R, I set the rear a little stiff for handling but the best ride would be 3F 5R on a vr. Get them you won't be disappointed lol

That's a shame to hear about your car. I have been doing some reading tonight and am thinking this is the best route to go!

Got to save my pennies and make this happen. Just got delivery on a set of poly control arm and new rear bushings so got to get them done first

My buddy Tim is running the PSS setup (not PSS9, not PSS10, not PSS14, just the regular PSS). He is hardly ever on here anymore to post. We set them to about a finger gap on the front and rear, maybe a finger and a half, and they ride phenomenal. If i was going back to coilovers those are the set i would run without a question. The car is away for the winter so no rides but i definitely would recommend them. Also they haven't deteriorated at all over that time, no worse of a ride from when we originally installed them 3+ years ago.

Id dissagree with this, your car rode pretty harsh. The PSS9s are great coilovers, but theyre really performance oriented. The coilovers on your new Jetta (H&R Prem Perfs?) ride muhc, MUCH better thant hose Bilsteins. Like you said, even the solowerks rode better than the Bilsteins, and i agree.

EDIT: No commetn on the regular PSS coilovers though, i know that Jerrys PSS9s are on the extreme side of things when it comes to performance.

We rode in my new car with 4 people, when my jetta with the pss9 rode with 4 people it rides the same as h&r premiums. They are harsh because i set the rears very stiff. I wouldn't tell anyone to spend 2 grand on a set of coilovers on a 10+ year old car. Your butt is too used to the raptor, s4, and touaregs.

Uh.. you litterally did just tell someone to spend 2k+ on coilovers for a 10+ year old car lmao.

Either way, all im saying is from my experience, expensive coilovers are worth the money. And ive been in your Jetta with 4 people as well, same with Chris', and Sam's. No doubt to me the PSS9s are quite noticeably more harsh. But like i said, track oriented coilovers (which is why you bought them lol), slight ride comfort sacrifices are to be expected.

OP, it doesnt really matter too much what coilovers you buy, quality is key. Bilstein, H&R, KW, etc are all top notch coilovers. People will argue for days whih ones ride better or handle better. Im pretty sure youd be extremely happy with all of them.
