What did you expect was going to happen? Pretty sure if you call South center or Northland its closer to a 2 week wait. Everyone that forgot winter was coming and needs their winters installed are knocking down the doors to get in!

I never understood why vw didn't give loaners. it's not something you think about asking when you buy a brand new car. But ya for non warranty stuff Calgary auto works is great as they can normally get you in right away. Tunedub always has a wait just as long as dealers.

Excuse my french, but I guess I am not familiar with "loaners", could someone give a brief detail on what a loaner is?

Cars to lend out while yours is in for service.

I have got one from South Centre a couple times, and the VW dealer in Vernon gave me a loaner while I was on a camping trip and broke down. The South Centre one was a sympathy car I think, because they took weeks to sort out my car, and the one in Vernon was just because they are awesome. I think VW shops usually have a couple but it is first come first serve/dealer preference as to who gets them.

Right so they did end up giving me a loaner but if my problem doesn't fall under warranty then I gotta pay for it.. 35$/day

Better than a straight out rental, for sure.
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

                    Re: Oh merry Christmas...

We've started seeing the 2.5l's (especially early ones with higher mileage) that are chewing up serp belts. Once the plastic idler pulleys and tensioners on the belt run are worn, the uneven surface is causing the belts to fray and I've seen more than one fail because of this. I've also seen some pulleys worn to the point of the picture below (not my pic, but is of 2.5l pulley)

I would highly recommend doing a good visual inspection of the pulleys before the new belt is installed, if there's any large ridges of humps replacement should be considered

                      Re: Oh merry Christmas...

$35/Day is pretty standard. We charge the same for rentals, which is our cost on them. When they offer you a rental they are just trying to keep you mobile, not sure why that's an issue. Dealers, tire shops, independent shops are all always a zoo from October to mid December, this isn't anything new. We collectively have two and a half months or two of real snowfalls to get hundreds of thousands of snow tires on and people ready for their Christmas road trips. It does make it hard for the break downs and tow-ins to be done in a timely manner. It's never a good time to have an issue with your vehicle, it just better when it happens in January - March or late June - August.

I think the thought is that it would be nice if the car rental cost was covered by the warranty.

On a similar subject I have always added car rental on my insurance, it's about $50/year extra but the year you need it, it pays for itself ($35 x 30 days = $1000).

Yeah I am not complaining about the loaner, just the way they talked to me... Loaner is quite nice frankly, its the 2014.5 jetta. Pretty much same interior as my golf except the seats.
