Re: Buying Vehicle from Stateside as Salvage

I also need the entire chassis harness, along with some other bits and pieces, which means ripping the entire interior out... I'll try to find one that has a clean title, so I can drive it in the states, if I can't find one I'll tow it.

that sounds good. Could also try to find one with a rebuilt title or a salvage with a run and drive designation

It seems like it would be a lot easier to find one in Canada. By the time you add on ~18% for the exchange rate plus gas, trailer rental, gst on car, hotel etc you would likely be better off buying something in Canada. I have imported a few cars and you need to fax the import paperwork to the border 72 hours in advance so keep that in mind as well. If you decide to bring a clean title car across you might have a hard time telling customs that the car is for parts only and they will want to charge you the RIV fee as well as the GST on the car.

No offence but swapping a 3.6 in seems like a big waste of time and money when you could run a turbo reliably at low pressure and get more power for less time and money

power is not what I want from the swap. Uber flat torque and power band, sound, reliability, drivability, and uniqueness is what I'm after. Also for power, I have a 600hp mustang cobra with irs.... I don't think money is an issue for me although I want to avoid wasting money during the swap. VRT sure is fast, but adds weight and is useless on an autocross track. The 3.6 is 75lbs lighter than the 24v 2.8 and sounds amazing. I want to keep the car forever so I'll do whatever I want to do.

I don't think you realize how much 75 pounds is, I'd believe 10-15 pounds. It would be cool but I wouldn't say it's worth it. Good luck

All those reasons sound legit to me except sound. Why is sound a factor to spend thousands, it's a vw not a lambo. Would be cool to see though, I love seeing unique cars in the club. Makes things interesting.

Are the 3.6 blocks really that rare?

I see 3.6 cars all the time, but it seems people who drive are too responsible and hardly ever wreck them, so it is pretty difficult to find one. Sound really does matter, every person have different criterial for cars so yeah... I'm not really spending that much, probably will be spending 8k.

Here's an 8900$ motor, but as a bonus it even comes with a whole car with doors and everything!
