I agree Derek. Some people think this car will poach VW owners. and it might get a couple, but I see it more a competitor for the STi and Evo crowd than VW, who attract a little more upscale understated customer. I do like the car, but would never consider it against a VW.

I've sat in the previous RS and must say it comes pretty much as nicely equipped as a GTI, the seats are also great. But as other have mentioned I do find the ford interior to be too busy.

I've driven a bunch of ford cars and they all share the too "busy" problem.

I especially dislike their doubling of steering wheel controls on both sides of the wheel and the double deep row of buttons. It's like a giant video game controller with 50 buttons. If you could swap the wheel with the Euro version (looks like a GTI wheel) then I'd say it's very much on par with the VW offering.

NA version (see the buttons on the lower half of the wheel)

      Euro version

Of course it's also on par price wise, so I guess it's up to the individual.

I am thinking this could end up being more than a MK7 Golf R price wise but will depend on options and such. I still think the VW package is a little more refined and I think the EVO STI crowd being targeted is a fair point, just not sure if that price gets up there, people might just want that engine back in the Mustang...

Rumored pricing of the Focus RS for the US:

Ford's highly-anticipated Focus RS could carry a base price of $35,730 when it goes on sale in the United States.

According to a configuration test page uncovered by Jalopnik, the Focus RS will cost $11,360 more than the Focus ST when it goes on sale next spring. The page also revealed the model will be available with a variety of options - including a sunroof, a navigation system and 19-inch "Premium painted forged alloy wheels with Michelin Cup" tires - which will result in a fully loaded variant costing $42,275.

Ford has declined to confirm the pricing data but we'll remind you the Focus RS features a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that develops 350 PS (345 bhp / 257 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to an all-wheel drive system with a dynamic torque vectoring control that promises to provide "a new level of handling capability and driver enjoyment."

Tuners are already pushing that 2.3 EcoBoost to 450hp in the mustangs with just software. Should be a very interesting.

I wouldn't put an aftermarket tuner on a ford if my life depended on it

From experience any ecoboost hates to be messed with. Tuners like the cobb kits really push the limits and IMO are not meant for daily use and usually result in engine failure eventually. Ford has caught on to this and will help you out, but if your issue is irregular warranty will be cancelled. One car I dealt with went through 2 engines and 3 turbos before ford cancelled it (this was all before 25,000km). Also depending on the tune, when we scan it the PCM can lock itself which will result in ordering a new module. Like I said, eventually with long term use stuff starts to break and fail and cause more head aches. Don't get me wrong, the numbers are appealing.

Also I lost my interest in the RS. After the final decision on the interior and exterior... Id rather buy another ST. The new R is more appealing to me as well, and is 5-10k less
