  • The Mericans are comming!! The Mericans are comming!!

Not a euro but Man!! C'mon Germany pull up your socks! Recent events. The fastest car around the Nurburgring that was once powered by a twin turbo Audi 4.2 V8 is now setting records with a Ford Ecoboost V6? The fastest production Sedan in the world 1/4 mile, 0-60,0-100,0-200, top speed on and on is a Dodge?? The new gt350 Mustang runs the Nurburgring 43 seconds faster than a M4??? 43 seconds!!! C'MON!!!

Anyway...I may just have enough silver in my beard to pull of a Caddy.

    the article.

Cadillac introduced the V-series to its ATS lineup Tuesday evening at the Los Angeles auto show. The ATS is the marque’s smallest and lightest car, and as with other V cars, the ATS-V will pack a lot of power onto that diminutive frame.

The car is powered by a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 that produces an estimated 455 horsepower and 445 pound feet of torque. The automaker says the car will go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of more than 185.

The 2016 ATS-V is offered with two transmission options. One is a 6-speed manual with Active Rev Match, a feature found on the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray that automatically brings engine speed to a level appropriate for smooth downshifts during hard driving. The other transmission is a paddle-shifted 8-speed automatic equipped with launch control. Power on both goes to the rear wheels.

Cadillac says it increased the car’s structural stiffness by 25 percent to improve cornering, as well as making damping that is 40 percent faster to respond than before. Stopping power is provided by 14.5-inch, six-piston Brembo brakes up front and 13.3-inch, four-piston Brembos in the rear. An electronic limited-slip rear differential aids traction. Also like the Corvette, the ATS-V has selectable touring, sport and track modes.

Inside, the ATS-V gets leather-trimmed Recaro performance seats and the usual suite of infotainment gadgets, including Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition and plug-ins for USB devices and SD memory cards. The 4G LTE OnStar system provides a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Fuel economy numbers have not yet been released.

Brian Corbett, a spokesman for Cadillac, said in an email that the ATS-V would go on sale this spring and that pricing, which has not been announced, “will be competitive with the competition.”

Considering this will be under the CTS-V that starts at 75k Canadian I would say this will be well under 100k. Maybe High 50s low 60s to start?

Re: The Mericans are comming!! The Mericans are comming!!

The Big 3 are building some great new cars but any time I have gotten into one it is the build and materials that makes the difference in price and it is often noticeable, perhaps it is improving and my experience at domestic dealerships is always less enjoyable than my foreign brand experiences as well.

I think with the new 2015 Mustang being sold in Europe for the first time it will be interesting to see if the Americans can start to push back outside of North America as well.

Yeah, I mean the Mitsubishi EVO always seems like a great car, then I work on one and think, "do they try and have a crappy interior on purpose?" It takes more than raw performance data for me to consider a car for purchase.

It isn't. I was using it as an example of how Cadillac has been trying for decades now to dethrone BMW in the Sports Sedan category, and failed. They have had a ton of cars that have outperformed BWW in raw numbers. None have come close to even meeting the driving experience let alone pass it.

2016 Ford GT Goes into production...Damn!

Featuring a carbon monocoque with structural carbon-fiber body panels with aluminum sub-frames front and back, the new GT takes a much more modern design approach than the retro-inspired aesthetic of the first GT.

The new GT tosses the supercharged V8 and will instead get motivation from a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 mounted in the middle, with output said to be “over 600 horsepower”. That motor will be will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission rather than a six-speed manual unit like the one found in the previous generation GT. Other modern touches include an active rear wing and a completely digital instrument cluster.

The new GT will enter production next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT40's famous 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Let’s take a closer look at the new GT’s design and compare that with the previous GT and the original GT40, both of which are also featured here:

I have issue with the Hellcats and the numbers Dodge claims. Drives me crazy. Their published numbers are based on race slicks or stock tires on a drag strip. If you read the Road and Track/ Car and Driver reviews it is more like 11.7 to 11.9 (depending on AT or MT) rather than high 10's. Still damn fast and a hella performance bargain but never a car I would own. (I'm not a good enough driver and I live in Canada where it's always winter).

I agree with you on not wanting a dodge sedan and they would never be compared to a flagship beast like your RS7. But the quality of American performance is no longer light years away from the euros in fit, finish, technology etc. Look at the new Ford GT it will be a direct competitor to the R8 and will be about the same price. Both the previous GT and R8 came out at about the same time at the same 150k price and the R8 has depreciated while the GT has doubled or tripled in value.

It is official that the SRT brand will be bringing out a JEEP SRT Helcat and the rumors are 840 HP through and AWD system that will handle the traction issues. Look closely at the mag test time paying attention to the trap speeds. These rear wheel drive sedans are putting down high 120's low 130's on street shoes!! Just think what another 140 hp and AWD would do. Would I take a FORD GT over a R8? for sure! Would i take a JEEP SRT Hellcat over a RS7 or a Panamera turbo S? No. Would i take it over a RS5 or M4? HellCat Yes!!

I totally agree the Germans are falling behind. They need to get some new tech fast. I ride in my friends Ford Explorer and it basically has everything my RS7 has. Adaptive cruise and cameras are standard on everything. The interior design on the Germans are nicer but the domestics are getting there. All the panels in the Explorer are soft touch; it was not like that even 3 years ago. Also my car doesn’t park itself, the MMI is slow and the voice commands are not great. lol

I would not say the R8 has depreciated in value because it's not a great car. Simply it has a way longer production run and has a large number of cars. They only built 20xx GTs, and they were the only big name super car from North America (The small 1 off makes don't count). The GT is priced more on exclusivity and the legend of the marque then the performance of the car.

When you compare the standard German stuff (A or S) to the standard American (CTS/whatever) the gap is still fairly spread. It's only in the top models you see the performance gap get smaller.
Comparing a hell cat/z28/gt350 to an RS7 is an apples to oranges comparison. I don't believe the Germans really have a car to compare against the American muscle currently available or soon to be available.

That being said the GT350R has totally taken all of my attention. The car is gorgeous, the sound is amazing. Everything about it is exciting to me. That's the car of my choice right now.
