  • Out of province ticket questions (bc)

I got a speeding ticket in bc last weekend. My first one. Just have a few questions that I havent been able to find reasonable answers to.

First of all, nowhere on the ticket does it say I got demerit points, but i'm guessing I received some anyways. Do demerit points carry over province to province now? I've seen mixed answers online.

Second, Because of the demerit points, will my insurance raise?

Third, can I pay an out of province ticket in alberta?

Lastly, it doesn't mention on the ticket that they clocked me with a laser, or if it was estimated. I guess this is useful information if i was going to fight the ticket, but i'm just gonna pay it either way.

    Thanks.

Tickets don't transfer over. I had a a doozy of one in BC when their new laws came out, got caught in a bad section with a bunch of cars.

Mine was estimate speed as well, I would have fought it. But would have cost me more in time off work, travel time etc to get back to BC to fight it. Sooo in the end I just paid it. And did so online as well.

It doesn't but the garnish around it does..... My insurance here is 3,300$/year because I lost my license in 2012 in Quebec.......

That's once you moved here right? I imagine if you lost your licence here in Alberta it would still be pretty hefty jump in insurance.

But something like a ticket in a different province that isn't a charge or loss of license shouldn't affect your premiums. At least that's been my case.

Yeah, once I switched to AB insurance. My insurance in QC was with the telematics device, which I was in love with. It was roughly 800$/year and they didn't care about your previous records with the law. It was beautiful. I really didn't give 2 cents if they knew where I was...

With insurance you are asked if you got any tickets when you renew, province does not matter. Otherwise just pay it not worth the hassle. If you think the cop is estimating the speed ask to see the gun if they refuse it will be thrown out in court. I was pulled over on one of those over pass traps and asked I asked to see the gun and the cop did not even waste his time and sent me on my way.

Really? wouldnt most people just lie about it then?

I never thought about that, I was just in shock as it was my first time with anything involving the police lol. I guess i know if it ever happens again.

You can certainly lie. But if you get in an accident and they find out about your record then your insurance has a chance of being invalid because you lied on the application. I wouldn't risk it. You get a certain number of minor, and major infractions before your insurance rate starts going up, i believe it is 2 acceptable in a 3 year period and on the third then your insurance starts to go up.

In all my years of renewing insurance I have yet to have them ask about any tickets.

I guess i switch stuff up every year so i have to call and talk to someone who runs through the list of standard questions.

I never get asked about tickets, i'd imagine they just look at drivers abstracts at renewal time. My insurance has a 1 ticket/year forgiveness.
