Blank Flip Keys? Programming?

Okay so the older gentlement that owned my A3 before i just bought it lost his flip fob. I only got a valet key out of the deal, which is fine right now, but i will need to get 1 or 2 flip remote fobs soon. Does anyone have a good recommendation for blanks AND where to get them cut? Ive heard mixed answers on both topics, from ebay to OEM, to places not being able to cut ebay ones because of the metal. Its all over the map.

Programming seems easy if the chip suits the car, so i dont mind non oem. Just wondering if anyone has had to cut one of these types of keys as well, or programmed one afterwards.

I have no idea who can cut the keys. I know I can order them in pre-cut or the dealer can. As for programming 2 options dealer or CAW

Give A-Ability Lock & Safe a call. Last time I talked to a guy from there they said they can do double sided laser cut keys.

Aftermarket keys have cheap Immo chips and I've heard of them killing the Immo module, haven't had any at the shop. We will not program cheap ones at the shop as we don't want to run the risk of damaging our equipment.

We can get a better deal on OEM keys and are much more affordable for programming than the dealer.

I've been wondering the same thing since I only have one key for the Passat and I'd like to have an extra. How much roughly, Colin?

Last time I checked with the dealer they said something around the 350$ for a flip key.....

Yeah ive heard the same high numbers for these keys. Ive also heard the programming is easy? If its the right chip, you just put the master in the ignition and the new one in the door and do some unlocking patterns or something. Id rather it all done right anyway.

Jim,

You need to program BOTH the transponder chip as well as the FOB. Programming the FOB is easy, programming the transponder is much more difficult unless you have your SKC for your vehicle, then it is a simple VAGCOM sequence.

Was just an approx cost. Was for a VW Beetle. That was the last order I did for keys. Would not include programming

I need a spare cut aswell, i have an uncut flip but its aftermarket, not sure if its programmable
