Big thanks to Chris at Calgary Auto Works for some fantastic rush welding. I hope people think of CAW for stainless and Aluminum welding and fabrication because their equipment and skills are top notch. Anybody that has seen some of Chris's work will know what I am talking about.
I recently had my engine out for turbo refresh and some other plumbing etc. Trying to optimize a few things I decided to redesign my inter-coolers last minute so at 12 midnight I took a hacksaw to the tops, and fabricated up some new end tanks and larger outlets. I have used an aerospace welder by the airport for years but the next day when i went to drop them of for welding found he was no longer in business and was now working at the Vancouver airport. I was supposed to be on the road with the car in 3 days so I was screwed. Called Colin and Chris and Chris said drop them off to take a look. To my amazement and relief Chris said he would turn them around overnight!! Thank you!
Here are the pics...
My old top end tank design that I did to use stock routing that was proving to be a little restrictive.
self explanatory
New end tank design fab with bigger outlets cut and beaded
Back from Chris. Amazing job considering the very rough metal I gave him to weld together.
After I straightened the fins and hit them with a quick bit of radiator paint. (May or may not help with non moving heat soak, jury is still out)
On the car.
