  • CAW saved my butt! Thanks overdue.

Big thanks to Chris at Calgary Auto Works for some fantastic rush welding. I hope people think of CAW for stainless and Aluminum welding and fabrication because their equipment and skills are top notch. Anybody that has seen some of Chris's work will know what I am talking about.

I recently had my engine out for turbo refresh and some other plumbing etc. Trying to optimize a few things I decided to redesign my inter-coolers last minute so at 12 midnight I took a hacksaw to the tops, and fabricated up some new end tanks and larger outlets. I have used an aerospace welder by the airport for years but the next day when i went to drop them of for welding found he was no longer in business and was now working at the Vancouver airport. I was supposed to be on the road with the car in 3 days so I was screwed. Called Colin and Chris and Chris said drop them off to take a look. To my amazement and relief Chris said he would turn them around overnight!! Thank you!

    Here are the pics...

My old top end tank design that I did to use stock routing that was proving to be a little restrictive.

    self explanatory

New end tank design fab with bigger outlets cut and beaded

Back from Chris. Amazing job considering the very rough metal I gave him to weld together.

After I straightened the fins and hit them with a quick bit of radiator paint. (May or may not help with non moving heat soak, jury is still out)

    On the car.

If you ever need some high quality welding done in the future give Chris at Unobtanium Welding a call.

He did quite a few things for me when I lived in Calgary.

Yes Chris at Unobtainium does good work but I didn't have 6 months to wait and I highly doubt he would have even looked at this job. I have tried on multiple time to get work done at unobtainium, from exhaust, roll cage, etc and it was always 6-8 months out or too small etc. Fact is Chris at CAW took on this job at 4:00 in the afternoon and I had them back, finished and pressure tested by noon the next day. I would have to say anyone thinking about going to someone like Unobtainuim for custom work you would be doing themselves a huge favor by running the project by Chris at CAW. I am sure you would not be disappointed by the price, quality and especially the timeline.

CAW has also helped me with welding 4 additional 1/2" bungs onto my aluminum air tank so i could change my trunk setup this past winter. Timing didn't really matter to me since the car was down but the job is done well with zero leaks!

I like the design of the new end tanks, should be much more efficient.

Means every once and a while I get a good idea. Baseball analogy for connecting the bat to the ball rather that "a swing and a miss".
