Just got back from the from the annual Drive & Drive (cars & golf). Though I would post some VAG pictures from Bonneville. Unfortunately after a week of long days and nights the prepping the S4 did not make it do to a part failure pulling out of the garage. So there will be a pick or two of the mopar acr so please do not be offended you purists.
It was great to see a huge turnout of Vags this year and even a few BMWs (even a beautiful M5 wagon) Here are a few of the first uploads.
First of all my fav was this sweet 54 bug. World of Speed is open to anyone. This guy runs his mint 54 every year and hit a top speed of 67 miles an hour on the 1 mile track. He is capable of 85 on the highway but this is salt at a high elevation and speed is harder than you think.
This full cage bug ran 157 on the short track which is impressive considering it takes at least 500hp to break 150 in that body and the V10 M5 could only manage 128.
There were no less than 10 Ghias some stock hitting in the 80s and a few like this one running over 150mph.
There were two big turbo VR6s both with built motors with best speeds of 121 and 124. I know everybody will be thinking my car goes that fast. This is salt at high elevation with strong winds and 38-40 degrees C. Think of driving on a smooth gravel road with a light dusting of snow.
this sweet type 3 had a full 914 suspension and driveline and managed a 118 and was the first type 3 to run at Bonneville.
And now for the mopar.
We had tune issues and blew every hose possible, wastgate, intercooler, BOV, rad and could only rev to 5800 due to a overboost issue. Still managed 138 but was doing most of that in the first 1/4 mile. Just another reason to come back.
