  • R32 replacement options.

Hey guys, sorry to make one of these threads, but I'm trying to make the decision on a new car. The r32 is conditionally sold, and hopefully be going to the new owner this week or next, So it's time to get the ball rolling on a replacement.

I've already talked to a few friends and have been getting mixed reviews, wanted to get a few more.

    Criteria:
Manual is my number one priority
    Prefer Awd
    Preferred Turbo (more specifically 2.0t)

A big reason why I am selling my r32, is because the lack of the manual tranny, I found that in order to have fun driving the car, I needed to keep the rpm's above 3000. (Which caused the bad gas milage as well) with a propper manual, I will be able to have fun driving with my left foot while keeping the revs low.

Also have been reconsidering awd. It's not completely Necessary for calgary winters, but as soon as I make decent power, I will just spin in a fwd car.

Probably keeping the price in the high teens to low 20's.

I plan to make the car decently fast. Full bolt ons for a 2.0 should be good.

So what I've been looking at are:

Manual trendline 2.0t Facelift tiguans (fwd)
    B7 sline a4's.
    Possibly a base b8 a4.

Just looking for some oppinions. Any other suggestions? Thanks guys.

Just throwing some links for you to investigate:

Iffy on this one but it's cheap for an A6. Just old to what you're looking for.

some nice examples there don, I'm looking to buy newer than those examples, like for the a4's i am looking for either b7 or 8. that 225 tt is nice though, I'm curious, does anyone know what they did to the 1.8 to make it have 225hp?

The engines share the same fundamental design, but the 225 PS version features a larger K04 turbocharger, an additional intercooler on the left side (complementing the existing right-side intercooler), forged connecting rods, a dual tailpipe exhaust, and a few other internals – designed to accommodate the increase in turbo boost, from roughly 10 pounds per square inch (0.7 bar) peak, to 15 pounds per square inch (1.0 bar). Haldex Traction enabled four-wheel drive, 'branded' as "quattro" was optional on the 180 engine, and standard on the more powerful 225 version.
        Wiki.

Kinda expected for you to go newer so I'll let you know if I find something. For that criteria, the options are low in the Euro side. Subaru is a dime a dozen. 2006 Subaru Legacy Spec B... Drool.

What about RWD? It's a blast in winter. I loved dragging the ass of my old 335i around.

I'm not really a fan of 3 series. Ice been toying the idea of a 135 though.

Those are really cool as well...

Though I have to say... Unless you like spending $1000 a month keeping your car alive... DONT buy a 35i car outside of warranty... The early bi-turbo ones are riddled with costly problems that will come up at 6-7 years old. The problem is the parts are expensive, so even if you do the work yourself it adds up. They tune amazingly well though... And I can certainly hook you up with that stuff if you get one!

I actually heard the guy who bought mine had the HPFP go on him the same week (recall part from BMW).

Danny pretty sure the 225 1.8T is just a slightly beefier version. Bigger injectors, less restriction etc.. Not too sure on specifics though.

I would rock that. If those are the same seats as an XC90, those are uber comfy.
