Thats why i sold it! My dad had a few Rabbits in the 80s and it was awesome.

Volvos were brought up at Cars and Coffee this morning, not sure if any that i like fit in my budget. The Subarus dont look like a bad option, ive driven one in the winter before... the only concern i have is having to do spark plugs or something in the winter... i hear the Boxer design isnt very service friendly.

Subaru is fine, we have a forester, the plugs can be changed without any special tools, all you need is an extension and a rachet.
      GT3071R and more...

I was a tech at mazda for 2 years. I wouldn't touch an rx-8 is my life depended on it as a daily. The NA 13b is a hunk of crap and when the seals go... its not an easy job. Now if I was to build a track car, yep its on my list for potential cars.

I'm also against the japanese imports cause if something goes wrong, have fun finding parts if there isn't a north american counter part

that's what i have. it's awesome. i run a set of studded winters and it's a tank. i also drive it in 2wd when the roads are more clear though, just to save on fuel.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

            Re: Winter car opinions?

The RX8 is a summer car. A friend of mine had it and in winter time it's not great, too much power to the rear wheels.

I'd like to propose some more awd options than just the Subaru:

            2003-06 Toyota Matrix XR AWD
            2002-06 Suzuki Aerio AWD
            1990-98 Eagle Talon TSI AWD
            1994-99 GMC Safari AWD
1994-99 Toyota Celica GT4 (I think this would be a great winter car!)
            1984-94 Ford Tempo AWD

Thanks for the opinions guys, i think im going to pull the trigger on the Evo, the general consensus seems to be "awd ftw".

Witchcraftz, most those cars you listed are simply unacceptable for me to drive (matrix, safari, tempo..), ive considered the Eagle Talon and Celica, but for the price of an Evo i think i'd much rather prefer an Evo.

I would recommond Passat 3.6 4motion but you don't like them,
I would recommond S60R but you don't want one,
I would recommond a Honda CRV but you hate Hondas,
You should really just buy a non turbo toyota MR2 SW20.

Too expensive , too expensive (plus youre getting one), too lame, too RWD. Weve been through this convo like every night for the last two months Jerry, i dont see why you make pointless suggestions Plus, youre the one who reccomends the RX8 over the Evo..

MR is great in the snow with little power. I recommond rx8 because we like it lol but nobody here will let you get one.

Not sure about the safety ratings on that one... Or hear an official 0-60 rating.

My FWD passat was the best car I have owned in the winter. Nick named it the nazi sled cause it was dumped and still made it everywhere with no issues

                            Comes with one of these:

Who needs to go 60MPH in snow anyways?

Hmm might be useful to put a budget up here then so we can help you out with trying to stay in your budget
