  • Discussion: VRT 24V VS SC 24V

I'm going forced induction in my jetta this summer, I originally wanted to supercharge it, for the reason of drivability and traction. But I'm have a very difficult time finding a kit since they were discontinued a long time ago, it would cost around 6k to get from superchargersonline.com. So now I am looking at the turbo kits, stage 1 from bwperfomance.com is around 5k to my door. I'm looking around 300hp, a smooth power delivery with a broad torque band, while retaining the classic vr6 sound. Are there more reasonable priced turbo kits around and all the vrts I've heard lost the vr6 sound. Let's get the discussion started.

Do turbo. I just bought a VRT, and it's absolutely insane. 1st and 2nd gear just spin tires, and the rest of the gears are just scary fast. It's very easy to get in trouble with the law though, you have to be super careful since it's always so tempting to spool up the turbo (Even more so at your age).

my guess is everyone does turbo and recommends turbo. There is probably a reason no one makes superchargers anymore. Turbo R32 would be fun.

Turbo is definitely the way to go power wise but will be quite costly. Turbo chargers will also deteriorate the vr sound by a ton, they are essentially a big ass muffler in front of your muffler lol.

It's true, the only sound my VR6 makes is at idle now. It's 2.5'' from turbo and is silent on the highway, and on boost.

Ill do that, from what I've heard the stock 24v vr6 clutch will hold up to 350hp if used properly? Does anyone know any 24v VRT or sc owners on eurodrivers?

Are you planning on building the motor? You could also contact Arnold at pag parts, he's got a wealth of turbo knowledge. Pags billet compressor wheels really are a fantastic product.
I'd say just throw a clutch in it if you're gonna be doin a build anyway, because you will always want more power.

Go turbo and run a screamer pipe off the wastegate. You'll smile every time it opens, guaranteed.

Jerry, my old silver 12v vr6 had both setups over the years...VF supercharger and a custom CTS turbo based kit. No comparison. Go turbo.

Good to know! But I think I should go TDI since it stole your heart from the VRT heh?

Nope, I'm not planning to build the motor, I just want a very reliable and drivable 300hp. But good to know about him!

I'm pretty interested in the c2motorsport/cts turbo stage 2 kit, does anyone have experience with these companies?

CTS is good, and out of Vancouver area. Not sure about c2, but they do alot of turbo chips and tuning.
