  • Best buy under 50k?

With my father recently passing I wanted to get something both of us would have enjoyed. I was considering a 2011 Mercedes C63 AMG with the P31 package, but Id like to know everything in the range that would be a good choice in terms of Euro. I have considered a E92 M3, but I already own a bimmer and would like to try something new.

I was thinking practical (so 4 door likely), and good for touring. The car will be parked in the garage for winter as I will keep using my E90. The price range isn't concrete, but I don't really want to spend any more then 50.

On a side note, if anyone knows of a gunmetal/silver 2001 BMW M coupe in Calgary let me know, my Father owned one and I'd like to track it down. Lot's of memories in it!

    "Best" is pretty subjective.

Why not something classic that will appreciate rather than be worth 20k in 5 years and cost a ton to maintain?

      What would you suggest?

I'd buy his old M coupe in a second if I found it, but I don't have any leads.

My old man loved classic Porsche's too.

I think the C63 AMG with perfomance package is an awesome choice if you wanna stick with a sedan.

If you consider coupes there is a number of mid-late 2000s 911s in that range. You're also in the range for Lotus Elise or older twin turbo esprit.

If I were to get a porsche I'd prefer a 911 turbo, which are way out of that range.

I'm considering a 2007 bmw M6... just because they are fairly uncommon, beautiful and have that wonderful V10.

Whatever I buy won't be driven more then a few times a week, and possibly taken on a road trip or two, so cost of upkeep isn't a huge deal to me.

A lotus? Man I'd do anything for one of those. Such amazing cars... and they stand out from the rest.

              Good luck.

You could get a nice 930 for 50k

Why spend $50k on a car when you're still in school? Doesn't seem overly logical to me.

Because now I have a house, school is paid for, and I have a fair bit to invest.

Might as well have some fun in life... Especially wile I'm young.

Stay away from the M5/M6... the repair bills are ridiculous with those, especially the auto trans. (whatever its called.. DSG/Tip whatever) The cars are a blast... but if something goes wrong you are eff'd. My Father had one and he was lucky with it as the tranny crapped out a few months before warranty ended. Bill for it was just over $15k.

The C63's are a blast... especially with a P31. Comparatively I find the M3s a bit boring actually. You could also throw the RS4s in that crowd.. or a B8+ S4 once you add a chip and pulley.. then drive it year round.

Edit: Didint see the above post.
