  • Draftsperson looking for work.

    Hello everyone,

I know I have been MIA for the past 2 years (sold all my car parts to pay for tuition ) but I am graduating from the Engineering of Design and Drafting program at SAIT Polytechnic. I majored in the Process Piping Drafting major and I am having tough luck finding a job. The position I am seeking would be for a Draftsperson role, anything from Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical or Process Piping. If anyone can help me, whether its tips or connections with people from the industry, please message me on here or email me at sophearith_lay@live.com.

I thought I would give Eurodrivers a shot but if I am totally being out of line with this topic, please feel free to delete this thread mods.

    Thanks!

Sucks you're having a tough go at the moment... sometimes needed positions (or upcoming) aren't posted so I'd recommend applying everywhere you think you'd like to work - even if nothing's been advertised. Hope something turns up soon for you!

What software skill set do you have? There is a ton of variety out there in the industry.

Our company is looking to expand, if you graduated from SAIT, can I assume that you have experience with Solidworks/AutoCAD?

This is a good point, but I took the same thing in school, when you graduate from EDDT you have a bit of everything, so you can essentially start off in any of the specific and go from there.

I have been in Civil world now for 5 years, it's a shame you aren't in Edmonton! Coulda put in a good word with the bosses for ya.

Check out Progressive Engineering, I worked with them when I first graduated they are in Calgary.

In this program, we have mainly used AutoCAD 2014, as well as CADWorx P&ID 2013, CADWorx Equipment 2013 and CADWorx Plant 2013. I have been self teaching myself MicroStation and find the transition to be quite straight forward. I plan to take the MicroStation course at SAIT as well.

Hmm Odd Progressive Engineering seems to have disappeared, must have been bought out sometime over the last 5 years.

Check Linkedin as well, lots of job postings there.

I commend you for this. I loath that program haha. It definitely has its plus's from CAD itself. But just couldn't get into it.

Explains why I couldn't find them. I worked with them when they were trying to start an Edmonton office....
