  • Rust: To repair or not repair?

Recently I noticed that my wife's 2006 Acura TSX has developed rust on both lips of the rear wheel wells (common spot for Honda's). The rust is fairly small so far and is just starting to creep up onto the quarter panel. Right now it looks like surface rust and has not opened up.

I've called around and no body shop is willing to guarantee that the rust won't come back if they spot repair. The ones that do guarantee that it will be gone want to do some serious body work involving cutting and welding. Obviously, that amount of work comes with a very steep price tag.

The car itself is in very good shape. No dents, scratches, or flaws and it only has 100,000km's.

What would you guys do? Would you take the risk of repairing it? Is it worth it?

Depends on how long you're keeping the car for... the longer the period of time the more worth it in my opinion.

^ yep. And yeah it's pretty hard to tell if rust will come back if you just grind it down but if you did go that route no doubt you wouldn't see it come back for long time. That's what I would do I wouldn't get new metal welded in.

        Thanks guys.

I should have mentioned that we are keeping the car for at least another year or two.

I got a quick quote yesterday and it came out to $900. I'm hoping I can find a shop that will do it for a little less.
