Re: What did you do to your car today?
Performed some hack-job mechanics on my Mazda. The task was supposed to be a simple caliper swap. After tapping and prying in every way I could think of, in attempt to get the e-brake cable to separate from the caliper, I just sacrificed the caliper! I tried tapping in out with a socket to not damage the collar on the cable, and even that was bending the metal. Everything seemed to soft to be able to get any leverage. I really didn't want to squash the cable, as it was Sunday (hard to find parts), and I needed the car back on the road.
Anyways, here are some shameful pics .

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Busy couple weekends.
The Mazda got new front brakes and a thermostat.
The Passat got new front brakes, transmission service, oil change, and a new timing belt.
I somehow broke the serpentine tensioner when I was reinstalling it after the timing belt change which is a lousy thing to happen on a Saturday night. I lucked out and found a lightly used one this morning (thanks George!), and I'm back on the road.
I have the crank lock tool from metalnerd that fits most TDIs and I now also have the proper pegs to put the lock carrier in to service position. These fit many Audis too. I shouldn't be needing them for a while, so let me know if anyone needs to borrow!

Re: What did you do to your car today?
After great success with my homebrew transmission fluid filler...
I made a quick boost leak tool. The Mityvac portion isn't needed as a Mityvac, but it has a pressure gauge that I wanted to make use of. I also disconnected the valve cover vent to prevent pressuring the valve cover, and pluged it with a cork.
I think I had oil on my phone, the photo is pretty bad!
It worked well. I was able to confirm that I do, in fact, have a nasty boost leak at the turbo outlet.Last edited by stefan; 08-15-2016, 03:59 PM.Stefan

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Installed a .658 5th gear in the Golf, thanks CgDoig for the help and use of your garage. It lowered the rpms 500 in 5th and should result in better fuel economy as well as top speed with the mods I have. Any gasser mkiv guys looking for the same as above, I'll sell my swapped out gears for the right price!
Can't wait for a road trip now!Hers 2009 Audi A4 6sp manual

My 3m on my hood is 12 years old and looking rough. Took it off with a plastic razor and somehow put a huge scratch in the hood. So mad!Last edited by stefan; 04-01-2017, 09:39 PM.Stefan

Re: What did you do to your car today?
My Zonda (don't laugh) died three weeks ago.
It would not start. I checked the fuses and nada. I changed the battery and nothing. Then I realised the positive connector had gone. The vehicle is so dam old the metal just disintegrated and wires hardened up. . I didn't have access to a car or a garage.
It was parked in my underground parkade. I was getting upset..oh no i have to buy a new car now...
I got a ride & bought a connector from Canadian Tire and some tape. I got out my old tool kit, flashlight and a old blade. I cut there wires and cut a bit off the ends with my blade and attached the new connector.
It started first time.
