  • Nurburgring Nordschleife - Car Options?

I'm headed overseas in a few weeks, and am spend one afternoon driving the Nurburgring (Nordschleife)

I'm looking at a few options for rental cars, and was wondering if anyone had an suggestions or familiarity with any of the options below (the reasonable ones I can afford) Other than the E46 M3, I have no experience with these cars (and obviously no experience with the track other than Gran Turismo).

BTW.... I'm also more than happy to take donations so I can drive the MP4-12C.

    - Renault Sport Clio Cup
    - Toyota GT86
    - VW Sirocco
    - BMW E46 M3
    - Renault Sport Megane R26
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

I dont have experience with any of these cars, but if it was me I would go with the E46 M3 for 2 reasons. 1) It has a nice high reving race inspired motor, and 2) its the only car that YOU have experience with, meaning you will probably feel more comfortable in it allowing you to push it harder around the track. Being a "once in a lifetime" opportunity, I doubt you'll want to sandbag whatever car you take on the track.

Good luck with your choice and i'm super jealous!

Tyler (Super Ty) went over last year, drove a Polo around the track for 3 laps, said it was amazing, car had a half cage in the back and R compound tires, said even a lower horse power car was pretty quick the way it was set up.

The regular Megane is sweet car, the R version is crazy fast. I'd go with that.

I don't have any experience with any of those cars, so I can't really help there, although I have heard that the Renaults are actually fairly quick and handle nicely. I'm curious as to where you're planning on renting from though since I'm hoping to make another trip to Europe next year and this is high on my to do list!

go with one of the hatches, it would be a lot of fun to rip around in a small hatch on a track. i think an m3 would be more overwhelming to drive. +1 for the scirocco... because its a scirocco.

All are great cars but just watching all of the amateur videos online of laps at the ring and it looks like any year 3 series BMW = Crash. I am sure its not the cars fault but stats are stats. I hate to break the euro theme, but that Toyota GT86 would be a great choice. Great handling, easy to drive, not a powerful car but that may be a good thing. If the weather is cool or wet then any of the FW drives or maybe find a AWD VW or Audi.

I am also interested in where you are renting from? There ring is definably a bucket list thing!

The scirocco is very fast! Even the de tuned Chinese version was quite a thrill to sit in.

I would go for the R26 or the E46. Both would be a riot going around there I'm sure.

I'd go for something we can't get this side.

If I was going to do it, I'd go for the Megane.

Hands down, I'd go with the Renault Sport Clio Cup car,
It would be rough and bumpy, but man that gearbox would be fun.

Wait a minute I was thinking the race car,
if its not then it would be between the Megane or the GT86

Isn't the latest Scirocco simply a Golf GTI in a little black dress?

Thanks for all the feedback guys - much appreciated.

My brother did most of the research around where to rent, and decided these guys were our best option (www.rsrnurburg.com). They provide you with a full package, and are apparently pretty good to deal with.

I'm leaning away from a RWD car right now given that the track will likely be wet when we drive in late March. Like Intocco mentioned, I worry about ending up in one of the walls. One suggestion I did get was to take a lower powered car simply because you have a better opportunity to enjoy the track and actually "experience" the track, rather than spending all three laps simply trying not to crash. I consider myself a decent driver...... but definitely not a great one.

I'm thinking of narrowing it down to the Renault Megane R26.R or the Renault Clio Cup (sport).
