      Re: Apple Car Play

Nice link pat, I've always loved the idea of installing an iPad mini into the dash instead if a deck. I suppose car play is the solution

Pretty cool, need to figure out how to retrofit this into my MK2 now. Was gonna attempt an in-dash iPad mini setup, but this look wicked!

              Re: Apple Car Play

Apple is being bullish that its going to be in a lot of cars but other news I am reading is that most car companies seem not too strongly committed. I think they are well aware that there are other players in the space, including Google/Android. I bet that its going to take some time to see what wins out.

Personally I think Car Play is not so well thought out, not revolutionary, not something the Apple of Steve Jobs would have built. It looks like a hasty port of ios6 so far, I don't see any magic. I guess I'd have to use it to know for sure.

I do think if you start to see this level of factory equipment standard you will see companies like Alpine finally motivated to step up their games, that can only be good for the industry. I hate that the quality of a cheap chinese knock off smartphone is better than a high end Alpine deck these days

Like the idea, but I really don't use my stereo much, so a Dension VW bluetooth kit for OEM headunits and an OEM navi will keep me entertained for days. The idea is almost the exact same as retrofitting a touch screen pc several years ago which is quite useless for drivers IMO... And I don't like my teenage buddies fiddling with my stereo....
