Was thinking of buying a printer, still looking into the software and computer needed to run it

I was going to buy one but I'm waiting till the ones that can do both plastic and metal drop in price close to $1000. hopefully it's just a year or two away.

SLS is still pretty new tech. I doubt you'll get one that can do SLS for that cheap for a long time.

            Nah SLS is too toxic.

            I'm thinking along these lines:

Are there local guys who can fab stuff? I have a UAV component that is silly expensive and at the end of the day it is just a block of foam with a HOYA UV filter and some 2 sided tape (and the tape sucks). I'd like to see if the body of this contraption could be made cheap:

3d printing isn't actually cheap, but it might be cheaper.

The problem with a UAV part is that your plastic piece will need to be very light too.

I'd simply suggest coating the piece with modgepodge to give it a hard shell.

That piece of foam is 240$...

Yes, weight could be an issue. I just thought I'd look in to options.

                    Hmm, maybe:

Or make simple mold and fill it with greatstuff?

Just alternative ideas if you can't get it 3d printed.

Greatstuff and a mold was out first thought, although that crayola foam is cool.

Sureline foam may be able to whip something up for you
