Anyone able to run a VIN check for a salvage title?

Had a look at a loaded 2.5L 5-speed Jetta with low km and sweet price today, and looked thru the service receipts, and low and behold there was a signed declaration/cert. form for a salvage.

Guy said it was from hitting a deer. hmmmm

Can anyone check the VIN records?
