  • This Is Not A Toy Exhibition & Kickstarter Campaign

Well just like most of you my interests are not purely based in cars and I have other hobbies that compete for my time and money. For me collectible toys has been something I have been fascinated with since a trip to Asia in 2007, there I saw many in person and picked up my first toy and I have been collecting ever since. To me these pieces represent a bit more than toys, something that could be considered closer to sculpture and art. This little corner of the art world is something that continues to grow and allow collectors and artists alike to explore a different medium and a different scale.

My collecting has slowed down a little recently but I am still always searching for new pieces of my desired focus and I have stuck with that first piece and continued to collect that same line. Early next year there is going to be an exhibition all about this urban vinyl toy world at the Design Exchange in Toronto with pieces to represent the history and variety of this form of art, including items from some famous people’s collection. I am also currently in negotiation to have around 35 pieces from my own personal collection sent and loaned to the museum for the duration of the show. There are of course some large expenses with such a show and the Design Exchange is a not for profit group so a Kickstarter campaign has been started to help ensure the exhibition is the best it can be. So if you have a spare minute please take a look at the page and feel free to support the campaign if this is something that interests you.

Also if you have any questions about these toys in general please do not hesitate to ask.

    Thanks

    Blair

Well the Kickstarter campaign was not successful but the show is still going to happen so if anyone enjoys collectible toys and wants an interesting story on how they fit into the art world, get your butt to Toronto from February 7 - May 19th.

And if you go you will get to see 28 of my Be@rbricks on display!!!

Some of those creations are pretty coo, I like the lego-ish pandas.

The show is going till May in Toronto, so plenty of time for people to check it out if they are visiting over the next few months, there has also been some overseas interest and perhaps the exhibit may travel....

I actually have a few Kaws items including a Pinocchio, Boba Fett, a black chrome Sorayama and all three sizes and colours of the dissected Be@rbricks as my favorites.

My main collection is of the described Be@rbricks, I sent 25 400% versions and 3 1000% versions to the show.

These are 1000%s, mine are the two on the ends

Here are 400%s and a 1000% together and all of these are from my collection

Finally some more Be@rbricks and all of the 400%s (smaller ones in the cases) are on loan from me

I don't understand the appeal of those at all! To each their own I guess!

I understand they are not for everyone, but essentially like pieces of sculpture and my dream is to one day have some proper display space setup. This is one of the ultimate Be@rbrick displays and mixed with a love for cars too!

Thanks I have been at it a while now and making a couple trips to Japan helps getting pieces at Asian retail price which is much better than anywhere else. I am at 60 400% Be@rbricks now so plenty more that did not go to the museum.

Just bumping this up as the shows book/catalogue is now available for order chronicling the pieces in the show (including mine) and essays on the subject relating to art toys and such, just in case anyone is interested.

I am also working on setting up a toy import company (since now one will give me a job here) primarily focused on UK wholesale distribution but if anyone is interested in what is going on or the UK collector toy scene check out the Facebook Ko-Re Ko-Re or Instagram @korekoreuk.
