  • Another bags vs coils thread.

Came across this video on vortex, I thought it was pretty interesting. Only thing i am questioning is what coilover set up airlift testers were using on the cars. I've been having a few people comment on my car lately saying that i am gonna ruin my r32 by putting bags on it, but when we go on our R cruises and such, i am still gonna drive the sh*t out of my car and i believe it will still handle well. anyways, here is a cool comparison video.

yes i know this video was made by airlift and is most likely biased.
i am also not trying to imply bags are better than coils here, just saying i think that bags have evolved to more than just slamming the car.

Saw this yesterday. I'm keeping all comments to myself until I hear what bag setups and which coils were used in each car for each test. Until then, I'm still not sold on bags.

Does price play a relevant factor or is this merely a technological comparison with no other limitations?

At the end of the day does it really matter if you go around a corner at +/- 2 g's or go through the cones a few MPH faster or slower? Its not like your R32 is a dedicated race car or anything!

Re: Another bags vs coils thread.

i think most of us agree that when it comes down to money and have your mind set on performance, it is gonna be much cheaper to buy a set of nice coil overs, with sways/unibrace. rather than to spend 3-5 thousand dollars alone on bags, and then buy sways, unibrace and things like that.

It is definitely preference though, i prefer looking good while driving, and parking, my daily drive consists of leaving my house, and going to school or work. (like most of us here) its not every day that we get to drive our cars hard. This is why i am choosing bags rather than coils. Even if i was to buy coilovers for my car, i would spin the coils as far down as they could go which isn't really the bet for handling anyways. My mindset is right now is low, Thats what i love. I know guys like george for example who don't necessarily like slammed cars. Its all personal preference. i just don't like the people who have the closed mindset and say "oh you have bags? your car must handle like complete sh*t" i think this video proves that bags isn't half bad when it comes to handling.

i got a reply from andrew from open road tuning and he said this:

exactly, if i wanted a fast car, i wouldn't have bought an r32. like i said i think the video is just trying to say that bags do have the ability to handle well.

I should add that my preference also changes depending on what kind of car it is. On a sporty car, I think that coils suit it better. On a big luxury car, I think bags are more appropriate. There are a few exceptions, but generally that's my preference.
