  • best company to go with for tv/internet?

moving into the new house in a month, just doing starting the research into which provider to go with for tv and internet. dont need a ridiculous number of channels or anything, more for watching sports and the odd movie. as for internet needs to be fast enough for downloading music and movies. any good deal bundles out at the moment, best companies to deal with etc?

I use telus for everything. Bill is about 130$ plus you normally get a free item I got a laptop which I sold for 400$.
I havnt had a problem with their service, I wasn't happy with shaw having to pay for the boxes. Telus you get them all for free I believe.

From when I was doing research the best deal is through Telus Optik

If you talk with some reps they can usually get you a good deal. I think I have seen a few advertise of Kijiji as well as RFD, another great deal is if you or someone / significant other has a student id card can get some great pricing then

I'm with Shaw and every single time I go to my mom's place (she has Optik), I pull my hair out. I can't stand Optik. Maybe it's just me.

If you can hold out for a bit for TV I heard the government is indroducing legislature that prevents cable/sattelite providers from making those stupid packages. So single channels only. Will make it much cheaper to watch what you want and not have to pay for 8 channels when you only want one. We only have telus in Sundre so were rather limited. But our bill is $140 month for lots of TV, slow as mollases internet and land line with unlimited long distance.

The alternative is a company called Teksavvy. They use Shaw's lines and provide the same internet service for 30% less.

if they can make TV single channel signup that would be a godsend!!! i only would subscribe to like 12 channels and thats it

I've had both so I can say that for internet, I find that Shaw is the lesser of two evils.

If they get forced into a single channel sign up system they are just going to make it $20/channel so we fucked either way.

That'd be stupid. I'd modify what they currently have and run a tiered single channel system.

That makes more sense: high-demand channels = higher price.

I'm paying $90 for my internet through Shaw, but it is ridiculously fast, even over my wifi.
I think its like $20 on top of that to add digital cable. Not 100% sure though

Nope... The lowest level of TV service is $37 per month now not including any hardware. It is stupid and insane. The fees have increase 25% in the last year on all services.
