    Welcome!

I've had three sets of Michelin X-Ice tires - one set of the originals and two sets of the XI2's. They're definitely the best winter tires of all the ones I've tried (which isn't very many). I'm pretty sure they run about $1k new

have been lurking for a couple of months now, just looking for some recommendations on winter tyres for this upcoming season. I'll give you some details about myself and the car first:

        - 1st time winter driver, i've moved here from Australia where we don't get snow, at all. I have done advanced driver training in Australia in muddy situations and will be doing more here for snowy situations
        - I drive a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro, currently on stock 17" all seasons and i have got some 18" wheels for summer as well.
        - Looking for some 17" tyres for winter, i have been recommended Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70s by a local tyre retailer, for approx 1k installed. Does anyone use these?

Can anyone else recommend something else for around 1k installed?

Hey man, perhaps give Bob at UrbanX a ring. Might be able to hook up a set of studded winters on those 17"s you have.

Ya call bob at urban X north, or Cort at urbanX south. Either one will be able to hook you up. I have the Federal Himalaya WS2 on my R32 and they are great, quite a bit less than the blizzaks as well. They can stud them there for you as well. I didnt bother getting mine studded as i still wanted to slide the car around in parking lots and have some fun.

Thanks for the tip mate, I'll give them a shout. Are studs the way to go? I've read/heard from people that i should be fine on winters with the AWD..?

Thanks for the info. AWD was a must for me. It was going to be a Subaru or an Audi. Audi won out, gf doesn't like Subaru...

Re: When are you switching to winters?

                WS70 is a great tire.

Your budget is quite reasonable. I had UrbanX recommend me some CHEAP tires in the past and I wasn't too pleased with them.

                I prefer studless. For the 10 days of the year I wish I had studs there'd be 100 I wish I didn't.

I got a set of Nokian R2's this season for ~$1100 for 225/40/18.

You can also try Chad at the Kal Tire on 32nd St. in the NE, he's a member here on the forums. He offers discounts to Eurodrivers members and they carry the Hakka 7's which are supposed to be amazing.

Re: When are you switching to winters?

After my Pirelli 240 Snowturds exploded the sidewalls late in the season, there was not a lot available for replacements in stock anywhere in Canada i had to settle on some Kumho I'zen KW22 studables. They turned out to be great tires.
