  • rad cracked wheels and idiots on deerfoot

driving to ball tonight around 6pm just near the blackfoot exit on deerfoot S i get the feeling of a flat tire and i had no choice but to pull over on the left shoulder lane well into the shoulder/ditch even.. front tire is flat.. **** ok..

grab allroad airpump and fancy spare and fill it up.. pull off RS4 wheel and toss on spare in about 4 minutes flat

tow truck pulls up behind us and blocks the left lane for safety.. thanks dude! sees i'm in good hands and gives me a thumbs up.

literally 3 seconds later.. BOOOOOM! 3 car pile up right behind us because people don't pay fucking attention with the towtruck driver ahead!!!

i felt pretty bad since in theory we started the accident but **** people.. the tow truck driver laughed and said this **** happens daily

    second part of story

the radical RS4 wheels i bought used from someone on here CRACKED!!! i just filled it up at home and the tire is fine!

should i even attempt to get the wheel welded? or i'm honestly probably going to just buy new wheels for the allroad again and sell these 19" RS4s for 200 bucks to anyone who wants them.

I need to become a tow truck driver, pick one car up, make work for 3 more! lol

As for the rims, if they are forged then they can be welded, if they are cast they are not repairable.

However I wouldn't think about selling just yet. I would first inspect all rims for hairline fractures, If it's only that one rim, I'd buy an extra rim to replace the one that is cracked and keep going. If all rims are have hair line cracks then it's unfortunately a loss.

I've found in my experience at a tire shop that if one rims cracks, the others aren't far behind. We rarely just get one cracked rim, usually 2 or 3.

these are hartmann b5 RS4 reps they don't make them anymore.. funny its not bent where it cracked but the wheel does have a slight inside bend but rolls fine

for the cost i'll probably just buy some new Roti BLQs or C1 has these privat werks that look OK.. or maybe tunerworks has something kicking around for a good price..

That's only true if you weld it with something that's not the same composition, as long as the flux material is the same composition you get a reapir that is just as strong or stronger.

i got a wheel fixed at alberta wheel repair, i'd never do it again. in my case the wheel wasn't straight i only noticed a few years later though.
it drove good, then one day the wheel wouldn't hold air took it in to get checked and the said i have a major wobble. 200 for repair or 300-400 for a new wheel, i'll buy new wheel everytime now.
