  • Cleaning / Steaming Car Carpets?

What do you guys do when your car carpets get dirty?

Vacuum only does so much. I've used foaming in-a-can products that you vacuum out too, kinda a hassle doesn't work perfect either.

Anyone had experience with renting a steam cleaner or shampooer or something?

I have used my wifes "little green machine" to great use inside the car. Carpet will always be hard to get out those little specs though.

Re: Cleaning / Steaming Car Carpets?

When i bought my house last year i rented one of those rug cleaners from superstore. Vacuumed the carpet first (well Tracy did), then i ran over the carpet with the rug cleaner and the water came out black. Went over it a second time and the water still came out quite murky. It definitely changed the entire color and feel of the carpet, and it was pretty cheap. Just get the detergent and machine and do it on a night and then leave the windows open to dry the place out. You can't walk on the carpet for a half day or day afterwards so be wary of that too.

Shampoo machine such as the "little green machine"
Bissel spray foam + Folex applied to tough spots
              A generic scrub brush

Did the above on a tan interior and the carpets looked like new after a rough winter.

I've found home carpet cleaners work ok.

I believe detailers use "extractors" though. That's the proper tool for the job.
