Agreed, very rarely 1.8 came with 4mo, all b5/5.5 engines are mounted longitudely.

Subaru is the best choice in my opinion. I've owned two modified ones and they were incredibly reliable and fun.

I don't find the interior *too* bad. Not great, but they're relatively inexpensive cars.

I prefer the 2.5L. 2.0 can make decent power but is laggy. Not much torque.

As the title states, im thinking about picking up a new car.

I would like to get something thats: awd, pretty fun to drive, manual and i dont mind a wagon. ideally i would like to get one under 10k.

a tdi passat wagon with awd and manual would be the perfect car but i dont think they exist, sooo

the 2 main stipulations are AWD and Manual

                    Any suggestions?
How about a BMW 3 series touring? They come in AWD (the X) and manual if Im not mistaken. You may have to spend more then 10K to get a nice used one though.

IMO these are pretty underpowered though. Specs seem OK but driving one... feels like driving a tugboat.

If it's anything like an automatic, tugboat.

the a4 in stock form is pretty underwelming as far as performance goes. Take your GTI and add a whole bunch of weight at the same power. 400-600 pounds makes a huge difference
Been driving VAG for longer then allot of the members have been alive

There's a fella from Edmonton on these forums whom I haven't seen in a while.. He has a gorgeous red 6 Speed Avant 1.8T, and a Gt30rs I believe.. might gt35.. Might even be an ultrasport

Pat D would be a primo resource for adding power to B6 A4's.
