Test install and everything is fitting perfect. Amazing that you can get a 3" x 9" chamber in there behind the block. Nothing to do but black wrinkle coat and waiting for the silicone hose. (It will be nice to get rid of that eye sore catch can up in the right corner)

i'd be OK installing it by the power steering upfront in that blocky hole bit

That is where i have a modified catch can now (look in the picture). Not the greatest place as the lines are way too long (4 feet to the pass valve cover) and way to many dips and valleys and you still have not addressed the main issue with the OEM system, the spider hose. Once again that is why my design has the air/oil separator is close to all of the outlets from the engine, with no piping more than 10" and the spider hose is gone. Also there are a few more other restrictions to maintain proper velocity for air/oil separation, 1" tubing must be maintained, the outlet internal core must be 4" minimum with the the length/volume of the main chamber must be double the core. That translates to at least a 8" chamber. In this design the main separator is 11.5 inches in total. On the 2.7 there really is only two places to have the best functioning crankcase vent system, and both are right behind the block. One in front of the fire wall and one behind. Once again that is why my design has the air/oil separator is close to all of the outlets from the engine, with no piping more than 10".

For those of you that have this engine and its variants, you know the expensive repairs that result from oil entering the intake. Hopefully this is now fixed.
heh funny, I put a catch can on my winter driver (ML320CDI) last year after completing a very long teardown process to repair the damage caused by oil gunking up the swirl flaps and ultimately causing the swirl port motor to fail. Removal of everything including the intake manifolds took a lot of patience but at least I am confident in fixing any issue on the vehicle now. I used a provent 200 oil separator. Now each car in the house hold has one, including the ALH's. Actually sold a handful of Provents to Jeep owners as I ordered like 10 of them, was surprised to see great interest in the Calgary area for what I thought was an uncommon issue.

                spot the catch can?

Have you had any issues with the Provent 200? I had one in the Jeep ( same engine as yours) last winter, and noticed that the filter had clogged very quickly and basically was venting to atmosphere through its pressure release valve. I know a lot of B5 s4 were trying them with the same problem and have stopped using them or at least removed the filter element. I ended gutting the filter and putting stainless steel mesh in place of the woven element but then the system was no longer separating anything and was pressurizing the block causing other oil seepage. That is why I replaced the Provent with with this style and there is no way this one will clog.

Looking back on things I believe I did the major work in 2011 and subsequently installed the provent 200 while I was reassembling the engine. As of this day I have not had any issues with the unit (which is why I installed it on both ALH TDI's). I wish I had the time to measure the exact cc of fluid drained from the unit. I have run a long rubber line from the bottom of the piece which drains through a small gap in the lower splash guards (with a proper valve installed, no elephant hose ghetto mods here!).

I am very keen on hearing more about your catch can ideas and will follow this thread!

                    Best regards - Navdeep!

Between two turkey comas, Managed to get this installed over the weekend. Wire reinforced 1" silicone tube finally arrived from England this week so I could complete the install.

Kind of got the "Danger Will Robinson" thing going on.

With all the covers back on it almost looks OEM.

I didn't think that the UrS4s had any issues other than that little flame suppression guard in the hose than clogs up. Are you having issues?

Great work, you still thinking of putting together a kit to sell? Like I said previously, I'd be interested for sure (although only 1 now since I sold the S4).
