  • Custom sound systems?

Just out of curiosity...i may want to do some custom sub/amp work in the mkvi, anyone have recommendations for custom boxes and solid wiring? Basically a full install start to finish.

I want it to be able to knock pretty good, mostly for show and have it just be nice and clean. Previous systems were all done myself, this one will not be.

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, didnt really look for it.

Side note...anyone know if its easy to run with RCD510 and RNS510 head units? I currently have the rcd510 but may have the option for an upgrade down the road.

Jim, what exactly do you mean when you say Sub/Amp work? Boxes or brands or what?

Everything, custom boxes, speakers, full install from the ground up. Picture 'Pimp My Ride', but cooler.

Just full like "hey heres my car, i want 2x 10" subs pushing this much power and i want it to look like this, thanks" kinda thing.

Talk to mitch, he has a decent custom fiberglass box in his gti spare tire area.

I have put a lot of thought into this and I would say order parts online to save money and then hire a shop like audioconcepts or mobile solutions to do the install.

This is such a pain in the ass for shops, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned down doing it or priced it much higher than if you bought stuff from them.

Agreed. Especially if there's doubt about things interfacing properly, etc.

Mobile solutions does nice work. Doesn't anyone make prefab boxes for your car?

Those look wicked, thanks! Also found one that replaces the hard foamy stuff surrounding the spare.

No prob. I used one of the Audio Integrations boxes in my old STi. Nice stuff. I like the other floor one you mentioned too.

If you eliminate the cost of someone custom fabbing a box you'll be way ahead. Might even want to just consider doing it yourself.

I appreciate the advice! Even found good DIYs for wiring straight into my head unit.

I think its a pain for shops if you order a bunch of **** that won't fit etc.

If you just order the same stuff that they already recommend and sell.... but pay half as much... well really they are only losing out on the mark-up then aren't they...

I just can't justify spending literally 4x as much to buy a pair of speakers from these guys, they really over-price.

+1 for mobile solutions, they do great jobs on install and custom boxes. Got my passport 8500ci from them with great customer service and they look after their customer (ex. warranty their parts and labour)

                        but they are not cheap

Mobile Solutions is pretty much the most high end shop in Alberta, if not Canada. They are expensive because they are worth it!
