  • Metal Polishing - Any Recommendations?

Looking to have some aluminum parts polished and don't want to waste my time and skin doing it myself. Usually ends up costing a bunch in sandpaper anyways.

So has anyone used someone before that they would recommend?

We get our trucks at the dealership done at reflections. Not sure on cost but everything they have done always turns out great.

I would use 2500 or 3000 grit wet and some metal polish, I usually use Mothers.

I have a guy that did my wheels.. he does it as a cash only side job. Usually works on trucks and does a great job. My wheels needed a 3 stage cut and polish and it cost $150.

              You have a PM...

For exhaust tips.. 1000 and 1500 is more then enough... thats why I used on my wheels for touch ups. Then a decent metal polish.

Yes I did. They want money and lots of time. Just looking to compare some time/cost options.

for the Aluminum. Get one of these from Princess Auto http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/C...-Kit/8263014.p and then some mothers from CT. For harder metals use the mothers and 0000 steel woll. I build custom guitars and polish the frets to a mirror with 0000 and mothers. Keep in mind that you will have to sandblast any surfaces that you use the mothers on as it will be impossible to paint after if you ever want to.

Right now it's raw cast so there is lots more to be done than just running a wheel over it. Should have been more clear on that.
Might pick up that set for other bit though.

Thats a great kit! I recently picked up a Mothers powerball and it seems to work great! The Princess Auto ones might be a bit too involved for wheels..

Ah. Then 320 or 400, 600, 800, 1500. 2000 grit wet sanding. Don't go lower than 320 or the scratches from the sanding will take forever to get out. Then the buff wheels with the cutting compounds. Aluminum really does not take that long to polish out because it is so soft. Your new mill will be looking sick in no time.
