I agree. Fisheyes are a bit of a gimmick... you don't want to use them all the time. I have a 10-20 that gets a little use here and there, but I purposely try to stay away from the short end of it (too fishy). Personal preference I guess.

That being said, that dog shot makes me laugh.

lenses or filters dont make good photos the photographer does. and macro is for shooting a single subject close up and bringing them up into full detail.

I think the macro reference is to wide angle adapters that usually come paired with a macro adapter to make the wide super wide. Not really a fish eye and better suited to video cameras where it can be really useful tool. Not really great for stills though as there is way to much distortion. True fish eyes are great for 360 degree panos as you can shoot a few images to build the sphere rather than a few dozen. Once again better for video work. That is why gopro's work so well because the 170 degree FOV roughly(cause the math is not exact) translates to about a 1.7 mm lens.

            Re: Fisheye

i have a 10-22mm canon lens, the widest you can go WITHOUT going "fish eye" (around 6mm) doesnt distort as bad and is super super wide. Not to steal any topic but its for sale, was shooting it on a 60D, things amazing.

As far as the macro/fish eye debate, i dont see how that would be good at all. Macro tends to keep a tight focus, which is the last thing you want in a fish eye.
            I take pictures for money.
