  • F you dandelions!

I'm sure everyone here has this issue in your yard unless you've over-seeded your ass off for the last few years to choke them all out.

Anyways enough of using shitty weedbgone eco crap which does work but not enough for what you need.

My lawn isn't bad but i pulled front-back about 100+ dandelions a few weeks ago and now there are probably 100 more or the start of new plants.

    fook them!

I found at home hardware in airdrie and probably cochrane you can get these things by weedex 'dandelion bars'

it has the original weed killer made in the 1940s and used up to oh 2008 when all the provinces banned it for eco friendly methods.. EXCEPT golf courses still get the good stuff

contains 2,4D herbicide which F's the weeds up good!

    anyways 18 bucks a pop (i bought 3!)

i'm not sure how they can still sell it when i thought this stuff was banned for home use but i think because its not a liquid form it can't in theory leak into a water table.

used one last night and what it is is a big waxish bar you pull around your yard with the supplied string.. the friction from dragging wears it over the grass/weed leaves and wears down.. i still have probably 1/4 left and my yard is 35' rear, 58' front and 135' long to give you an idea for usage

anyways no dogs/humans,etc on the lawn for i'm giving it 3-4 days and in 1 week all those fucking dandelions should be dead.. aerate and over-seed and fertilize!

      Good to know!
We have lazy neighbours on both side who dont take care of their yard so their crap blows over on us leading to weeds. We do have a company that come out to take care of our yard with unlimited weed control but sometimes its not enough.
Will have to pick this up and try it out.

        Re: F you dandelions!

Dandylions were just removed from the noxious plant list...they're harmless...anyways...they can still sell the bars because they already had them in stock...the manfacturers had to stop making them.
If you truely don't want ANY dandilions...thats never going to happen unless to pluck them all...but you can weed n feed in the spring and late fall, application to be done right before a rain, or snow.

Ryan, look for something called Killex (2,4D, Dicamba, Mecoprop). You can buy it in a bunch of different applications. There is a spray bottle for shooting single weeds, and bigger jug for shooting more weeds, or a sprayer you can put on your hose for a broadcast spray.

The province did not ban 2,4D based products, what they did ban is the use of it in a Weed and feed application. The reasoning behind that is that you need to fertilize the entire lawn, but you don't need to put herbicide over the whole lawn necessarily. Herbicides do not work on preventing plants that are not there.

If you have a high density of weeds and are looking to treat a large area of your lawn where it is not practical to spray each dandelion I would go with the hose applicator like this http://goo.gl/3wWL7. 1L will treat 800 sq. metres. This is the same stuff that Green Drop would use if you were to hire them.

If you're not doing so already a good fertilizing program will help strengthen your lawn and help it out compete weeds.

The reason why there has been a proliferation of the "eco" based products in the market is that it makes more money for the chemical companies, and they get less heat for making it. Some retailers have also chosen to stop selling anything but "eco" based products. If you think about it, it is good business for the chemical companies. They can charge a premium for the eco products, which dont work as well as the good old products, and people have to buy more because they are not as effective. More money for them.

The corn gluten meal (CGM) that you used is an ok products, but it is very dependent on when it is used. CGM prevents the weed seeds from germinating, but it is only effective for a brief time, and it is temperature dependent so it may not have worked when you used it with snow on the ground.

                Re: F you dandelions!

I’ve used Killex on weeds and it does ok. Gets alot but not all in my experience. Found too it will burn your grass so you need to be careful when treating weeds.

We have been using Dr.Green Lawn Care Services and they are amazing. They have really helped most of our issues. Having the unlimited weed control service where they can be called out every week to treat really does save you time and money in the long run. I would recommend them over Green Drop any day. If you do sign up and say we recommended you, and you will get a better rate too! (PM me if you do and ill give you all the details)

I get the dandelion bar at the Golden Acres Green house. As soon as I was old enough to cut the grass my stepdad used to make me drag these around...nothing works better.

I think it is funny that we use cancer causing chemicals to kill "weeds" that have in some cases the ability to ease the pain and effects of cancer.

yea but no one is growing weed on the front lawn

also, IMO, green drop sucks. used them for 4 years and the results were always crap. i've simply resolved to just mowing the lawn when it's long. it's green enough for me and i couldn't care less about the neighbors. you can't change them. i'm on a corner though so my lawn is a loner. i've got way more important things to worry about than my lawns shade of green.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

Public service anouncment here, comming from a water purveyor employee. Please use a hose connection vacuum breaker (HCVB) if you choose to use a hose applicator to spray these bastards.

Please provide your source for the 2,4D cancer link, because no scientific study has shown that to date.

While this is true, it is not required. Just keep the water flowing in a positive direction at most times and flush the lines out thoroughly after use. No need for this type of device on the line
