  • Race Licensing

Not sure if anyone is looking to get a race license(FIA) but this will probably be your only opportunity to do so in Alberta this year.

    See Below.

NASCC and ARCA will be offering a competition driving school, to earn a WCMA racing license, at the new Castrol Road Racing Track by Nisku, on May 25 and 26, from 8 to 4:30 each day. Registration is now up and running. Because of the track size we can only accept 30 students to this school, so if you need your race license this season be sure to sign up quickly.

The school cost is $500 plus tax, for $525 total. There will be two days of track time with various exercises, a chance to learn the track lines, braking points, car handling, flagging, and race start procedures. You will have an instructor in the car with you most of the time, and classroom instruction when not out on track.

Your school car does not have to be a race car, it must have two seats and belts for the instructor as well as driver. Pickups and SUV's cannot be used. You will need a race or motorcycle helmet.

Register through our club website, http://www.nascc.ab.ca under the registration menu bar or directly through motorsportsreg site at this link: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...8#.UXdFIYLrncN
Write nascc.events@gmail.com if you have any questions.

      Re: Race Licensing

How long is the license valid for, and what's required to re-certify after expiry?

(emailed the organizers, just curious if you know)

        Re: Race Licensing

If this is your first course then you will obtain your novice license you will then have to do 3 races in 1 year (I think) before you are granted your full race license. If you do not complete the 3 races you would have to take the course again. For re-cert as long as your racing you just have to send your $100 each year and depending on your age etc you have to get physicals/eye test done periodically.

I know some young people obtain there license before they can actually drive a street car but these are usually people who have raced before in karting etc. You would need to email Jed at NASCC and find out what the age limit for this course is.

                Re: Race Licensing

This is an FIA sanctioned amature road racing license that you can use to enter any races in the WCMA (Western Canadian Motorsports Association) that includes AB,SASK,MAN. Also it is accepted by SCCBC (BCs racing club). Also ICSCC accepts it down state side that covers the PNW. It will also get you into a NASA event but you will have to purchase there license just to be insured i believe.

For where you plan on entering I previously posted the Racing Schedule for Castrol Raceway.

Castrol Raceway -short track will be ready in late Spring, long track in mid summer.
May 25/26 school weekend. Short track

                  haha no kidding.

If it werent for the 3 race rule I would be in. Waste of $525 for me as it stands. That and it's in Nisku

Edit: also, not that I dont trust people on here but I would have blurred out my personal information if it was me

                      Re: Race Licensing

Is there not a requirement for license's and age limits? Do u need to have a full license? GDL?

I don't mean to be offensive or anything like that. But u think a race track would have some kind of an age requirement for racing. Seems like it could possibly be liability issues?

After reading through the wcma hand book, you must be at least 16 and have a full license. There is a junior section though.

Most tracks (that I have seen) require you to be 18 or have parental consent. But this is a track by track basis. This license is only part of the package. The school portion is going to be very informative for anyone that attends.

Also I hope you realize that the car basically means nothing. I hope to keep up with an anything based on the car is a silly statement. Road racing really shows the drivers ability more so then anything else imaginable. "Fastest" car in the world will be slaughtered by a pro in "slow"car.
Aim to get consistently better every time out. Set lap goals (if driving the same track when timed) aim to be a smarter driver. Learn to read the track and feel the car. Trying to beat a different car will not teach you anything and will likely crash your car before walking away a better driver.
Also I really suggest you upgrade your brake pads and change out your brake fluid before your go since brakes fade fast and I'm sure you've checked into the rules for safety gear and related goods for the races. Helmets, fire suits, cages, fire suppression etc will all play into racing.
The school is a great idea though!

Thanks man, I'm getting the fluid and pad changed within a week. Not being arrogant or anything, but I got 372th place in Gt academy 2012 final out of 1000000(probably 10000 serious drivers), just gave me a bit of confidence. Yes, driver is one of the more important factors.
