Re: What was the one that got away?

For me, one I miss a lot was my 1996 Jetta GLX in porcelain blue, really liked that car and had it modded pretty well too.

For a missed out purchase I would say that I regret not picking up my Dad's MK1 TT ALMS when he traded it in on the 3.2 TT, I loved that red leather interior.

For me the one that got away was an 02 Green GTI. Had it all lined up and ready to buy, then I got turned down by VW credit. It would been my first brand new car. Did not want to have a co-signer..... kind of stubborn that way.

Always wanted a new Green GTI. Since VW does not paint green cars anymore I chose a CSG GTI in February and picked it up early this month. I'm glad I waited..........still miss the green though!

I was second owner, had lots of plans for it. 1990 325ix. 194xxxkm diamond black. Initial investment $1375. I would have fixed it, but I was hurtin financially at that time. By far favorite car I owned.

My dad's 1.6 20V(bored to 1.7ish because the walls were scratched up due to piston valve contact) Mk2. The sound is simply amazing.

^^ wow that is one intense fire. The chrome seemed to have survived though. A good reason and reminder to carry a fire extinguisher.

Re: What was the one that got away?

Haha yeah I dont think a fire extinguisher would have done much unless I caught it right away, cause once they opened the hood there were some pretty good 4 ft flames. Anyways I was in class at U of C and got a phone call from the police saying my car was on fire. Immediately I looked around the room cause I totally thought one of my buddies was f****** with me, but nope. Walked to the parking lot and theres the firemen busting open my hood. Still not 100% sure what happened to this day but at the time came to the conclusion that the fire started in the drivers side headlight, as you can see its absolutely roasted haha.

Crazy. Glad that at least the wheels survived (or so it seems). Speaking of wheels, a little birdie tells me you have a new set you need to put on and take some pics!!!

Yeah I was just glad that I wasn't driving when it went up in flames! I can only imagine my reaction, flying down crowchild and flames start bursting from my hood hahahah! But yeah this little birdie you speak too knows a few things! I'm planning to put them on this weekend after I'm all finished with exams, assuming the weather holds! Still a lot of rocks on the road though, they need to get more street cleaners going!!

Re: What was the one that got away?

I'm not sure if this counts since I didn't actually own the car but here goes anyway. Back when I was looking for my first car, I found a 1983 Rabbit GTI..... for $300. It ran, drove, (was actually quick) had a crappy sound system, custom glasspack muffler and some super duper awesome matte black paint with custom rock chips all over the body. I was ready to buy it, cash in hand, then my dad came and saw it and was like NO, you ain't driving a tin can lol. At the time I was livid (I was 15 I think) and promised myself that one day I'd find that car again and buy it. I still have the VIN saved somewhere hah. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't buy the POS... probably would've gotten killed in it. Car went up for sale again like 2 years later and I was happy with my MK2 coupe. I still wouldn't mind having a MK1 GTI in the garage though haha.
