I happen to have an intimate knowledge every inch of my B5 s4 and there is no rust other that minimal on rear suspension components. I have seen many b5s that have no rust. I have seen a few with baddy botched fender rolling attempts that had some rust but that is it. Not all are perfectly clean but not all are rotting. I will give you that and high mileage Alberta car sees more wear an tear that cars from most places that being said i would not paint every Alberta car with those broad strokes.

I recently took of the rear valance of my B8 S4 because I am working on CF diffuser and need to take some measurements of the car. I was blown away by the amount of rust on the hardware in fact the stainless steel lip was completely bombed out in the back and half of the fasteners were completely rusted. This is on a car with 20k on it. When I got back to Calgary I took a look at the same valance that I bought off a member here and surely enough the stainless steel hardware is completely rusted. No where near as bad as mine but still way more than i would expect. Would I be bold enough to say that all B8 S4s are starting to rot? NO! But Cars parked on the Ocean that sit for long times will rust faster.

A strong unyielding opinion will always lead to alienation of customers. I can't see you getting much business from owners of b5s, b5 s4s, TDIs, RS4s....and that may be a shame if you really do have knowledge to share.

Like I stated earlier i don't know you from Adam but I am sure we will meet at one of the events this summer, if it ever arrives. But I can assure you that I will not have the personal view that all wrench twisters from Red Deer are opinionated Shreks. Because it is probably not true.
    Bob,

I feel you're a bit out of line here. Chris is always there to help out B5's, TDI's and RS4's. I've had help from him in the past, he'll lend you his shop, tools, really whatever he has. He's a bit rough around the edges but you'll never meet a more giving guy. He spends tonnes of his own cash and an incredible amount of time organizing the AutoUnion/Euroquake car shows each year. I defend him whole heartedly.

This post makes me happy.I dont think its fair to attack me for honesty . Its a quality left out of my profession all too much. They will do anything to make money and my number one concern is anyone in this community and my customers .... for ie a customer tonight had a blown hose on their car i left the gym to reopen the shop and make sure they had there car for the weekend turns out just a bad hose clamp. no charge have a nice weekend.... You think your mechanic would do that for you ...i would do that for anyone .....so i get testy when you question my devotion for customer service , or to you guys .

Very few places would do that. Not many in calgary. This thread makes me laugh unless you all mean it, then yikes.

As I stated in my post " I maybe way of base" and " I don't know Chris from Adam" but Chris asked for this type of dialogue in his original post. Maybe his obvious willing to help and experience would come across easier with a more subtle approach. With a little more gray rather than black and white all the time.

I guess it is easy to sound a harsh when communicating with text in and open forum, and I probably am guilty of that in my post. That honestly was not my intent.

I meant what I said in that I look forward to meeting Chris, and that is because of his support of the community events and customers.

Just a word of advice "you catch more bees with honey". And the next time someone asks you "does my ass look fat in this?" Is brutal honesty always the best policy? Try it I dare you .

                  Re: Problems with each other

I will defend Meyers in his support to the club/his customers/the general public as well. 2 years ago, after busting his ass of to put on one hell of a Euroquake show, he opened up his shop at around 7pm (after a scorching hot day) to check on the rattle under my car. Turned out I bottomed out and smashed the cat heat shield out of place. He helped me put it up on the hoist, and tack welded it back into place. Been fine to this day. What did I pay? Nothing. He said have a safe drive home and a see you later. Would any other Mechanic do that for me?

                  Yes......and Unicorns live in Banff.

Meyers may be blunt, but seeing the cars he has built, helped build and helped fix, I trust his experience and his knowledge quite a bit. The biggest problem is the issue which Popp always brings up. There is a BIG difference between a club and a forum. A forum is a bunch of sh!t talk online where words are interpreted wrong, feelings are hurt, and people develop "problems with each other". A club is the group of people that come out to every (or at least regularly enough to know each other) car meet, show, or coffee. When you can put a face to a name and get to know people personally, you tend to interpret them online much better!

                      Re: Problems with each other

I also tend to be pretty forward when I post stuff, but I've learned that adding "In my opinion" before my post defuses the post.
I also try not to post things with exclamation marks, except to signify I'm excited about something.

There's a big difference in perception between:
                      "Chocolate sucks!"
                      and
                      "In my opinion chocolate sucks."

BTW: I wrote this eating chocolate, I love chocolate.

I know no one on this forum but hope to meet all of you as I can hopefully make it to some events.

So in a third person kind of few, how you say things, wording wise, can give of a different tone or mood than one thinks they are giving off when writing something. People interpret different wording and phrases differently. Something can come off as aggressive to some and as just a fair statement to others. This is only a forum, nobody sees what your true expressions are, like you would talking face to face. Being one that has misinterpreted texts and e-mails before.

So far from what I see people have their biases, experiences, and opinions, some people take it as just that and some take it as fact.
Take everything with a pinch of salt, even if something is a fact people will stick to their opinions till blatantly proven otherwise.

A pinch is too much. Normally you only need a grain of salt

When I owned my mk4 Jetta I probably visited close to every shop in Alberta and aside from Richard at Dubsport my best experience came from Chris. He helped fix a cracked block and was even able to keep the price very reasonable. I know that if I had taken my car to some shops in Calgary or Edmonton I probably would have never even been able to get my car back the same day let alone for the price it cost.

Whenever I finally get the chance to have a big install on my mk6 I will be sure to give Chris a shout, hopefully this time I won't drive so far on a cracked block just to see you
