    Motorsports Enthusiasts:

After many years of development, we are pleased to announce that the first reading of our re-zoning application in Kneehill County to obtain a Direct Control District to develop a comprehensive Motorsports Facility, was approved almost unanimously (6:1) by council on March 12th, 2013.

The re-zoning application is to approve the development of a 4.4-mile multi-configuration Road Course, Paddock, Commercial Development, Non-motorsport Recreational Development, and Residential Development.

This is a significant step towards a World-Class Motorsports facility becoming a reality in Southern Alberta; a facility which is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of motorsports enthusiasts throughout Western Canada.

As many of you already know, this project has been in development since 2005. The process has taken longer than expected, but all issues have now been resolved.

We still have to go through a second reading (Public Hearing), which is scheduled for June 11th, 2013. However, based on information provided to us by the Development Office of the Kneehill County, we are confident that all of the concerns raised by the area citizens have been addressed and we are very optimistic that we will obtain the final approvals in June 2013.

Construction could start as soon as the Spring of 2014, with the track opening in 2015.

We have thoroughly updated the FAQ section of our website to reflect the recent developments and we have included much more detailed information about the project, the planned amenities, and the operation of the Road Course.

As soon as they start getting word of rental days and such eurodrivers should start pitching auto cross days. I think that would be super fun.

I am going to point out this is really being designed as a country club race track for rich people and will most likely have ridiculous rental fees compared to what we are used to.

                        yawn

this is like every race track club idea. and im not saying it doesn't have legs and wont get built. but they'll quickly realize that there is a demand for it to be used, and the members aren't using it.
you'll get the cheaper partial day rentals for use because its essentially free cash flow that reduces membership costs. you've got be pretty stupid with money to not want reduced membership dues

Well this track is based on the Calabogie model and it is the most expensive race track in Canada by a long shot.

I know Mosport cost where 9K/day (Weekend price) and that Calabogie is significantly higher than that. So much so that most race clubs only do 1 event a year at the track due to costs.

You might be able to get a half day during the week on there shortest course for maybe the 5K range but just a guess.

went and re-read the FAQ's looks like it wont be limited to members only:

Will there be yearly dues for members to pay?

There will likely be yearly dues to each level of membership, but the amount may vary per year and there could be years without any yearly dues. As it is anticipated that at least one Road Course will be rented out to other groups/clubs on a daily basis, the Club will receive a portion of the track rental revenue. The yearly dues will be calculated based on the proposed maintenance and operational expenses for the upcoming year less the rental revenue generated from the previous year. So if the rental income is high, the yearly dues will be reduced or possibly eliminated.

So let me get this straight, if the track needs maintenance, and they don't have enough rentals, the dues go up. Less people pay dues because its no longer worth it to them, track dues go up or maintenance fails to happen and we end up with a run down track like race city was at the end.
