    Re: Official F1 2013 Thread

David Coulthard tends to know what he is talking about and makes a pretty good commentator and interviewer on the BBC. Looks like early weather has hot and thunderstorms for KL area, which in my experience is how it goes there, nearly a daily occurrence for the afternoon thunderstorm there and in Singapore too.

Thinking about hitting up the Hungarian GP in late July....

Well once again it shows why team orders are BS you feel bad for Nico and you hate Vettel just for how they handled the same situation.

Hamilton going into the wrong part was up until that point the funniest thing.....until the drink room after the race. Man the tension was so thick in there you could cut it with a knife. Lewis was like F this and left, and Webber and Vettel had a hard time acknowledging each other.

Team orders....what do you say? Let them race? We could have seen 1,2,3,4 all out of the race today had the teams allowed their boys to race. At the end of all of this its a season long race for points, and the team mgmt had that in mind. I don't like it, but I understand it. Sure it would have been awesome to watch Vettel and Webber go at it with each other, but I think all we would have seen was a crash at the end of the day.
The team orders I can't stand however are the "hey rubens you want to slow down and let Michael by" type orders. Those piss me off. If someone is leading and they want them to hold order, OK, but causing one guy to have to slow down to let the other by is annoying.
We will never know what was going on with Hamilton's car to know whether he could have actually pushed harder, whether the tires and fuel were in fact in a sad state or whether Ross just wanted them both to make it home as they weren't going to catch the Red Bulls

an otherwise fun filled, exciting, boring race. vettel has no class and hamilton surprised me with showing some. merc could have let nico pass if hamilton truly had an issue and still retained their position. wrong pit box and drink room were highlights for sure, as well as the alonso front wing gamble. also bummed about the force india boys. really disappointing after such a strong start to the season.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

              Re: Official F1 2013 Thread

yeah Alonso really did gamble on that wing, and to have it fail at the end of the straight, given he could have hit the pits 5 seconds prior was just gut wrenching. luckily he was able to walk away from that as it certainly could have been worse

I for one still love Vettel. So he's a fierce competitor... and doesn't exactly listen to HQ. I hope the Webber/Vettel thing heats up actually. I'd love to go back to the Senna/Prost feudal days! Let 'em race boys... let 'em race!

I agree. I wanna see racing, not Webber and Vettel casually cruising to the end because of prior agreements made. Vettel made the right decision to actually race. I hope the team dynamics heat up too and we see a fierce rivalry between them both............... and more shots of Hamilton's lady friend.

Anybody want to bet that force india did a little redesign of there hub but forgot to test fit while at race temps or got some made out of a wrong material?

Funny thing about the team orders is that all the drivers are brought up taught to win at all costs if you want to make it. Then they all make it to the top and are told to stop racing and fall in line.

                      Re: Official F1 2013 Thread

Well as Andrew mentioned there is a big difference in team orders between pulling over and holding positions, but I think at this early stage in the season points are key and everyone was lucky things worked out as they did, but it does build some drama for the next race in China. I am curious as to whether Rosberg's car had as little fuel as Hamilton's and if he really could have pushed a lot harder or just wishful thinking.

Big issues in the pits though with both Force India and McLaren too bad as might have made things a little more interesting.

                        Re: Official F1 2013 Thread

crappy to see Force India out during the race.
Quite surprised that Alonso didnt pit when he had the chance and im sure Red Bull told Webber to cut infront of Alonso knowing that the change in air to the front wing would cause it to fail, eliminating one of their top compeditors from the race.

As stated by many already, some team orders are absolutly rediculous, but in the case of Vettel not following the orders to stay in position when Red Bull was pretty much gauranteed a 1-2 finish and take the chance of hitting Webber and both of them crashing and not getting any points is out of this world! i dont care if theyve been coached all their career coming up throught the ranks to do whatever it takes to win, you still need to listen to your boss in certain circumstances, in the end the team wants to win the manufactuers championship, thats where the money is, the driver/team doesnt get any money for winning the drivers championship, just street cred. lol. 10 million euros to the winning manufacturer.

Just a few of my favourite Questions/Answers from the Formula1 Post-Race Press Conference
Malaysian Gran Prix Post-Race Press Conference

Q: (Ian Parkes - Press Association) Mark, as has been mentioned, emotions are clearly raw but firstly do you at least accept Seb’s apology, because that’s not been mentioned yet and secondly, again emotions are raw but when you have a teammate who does ignore team orders, does it make you consider your future with the team, maybe even in Formula One?
MW: My mind, in the last 15 laps was thinking that many things, yes. Many many things.

Q: (Abhishek Takle - Midday) Mark, obviously emotions still very high but were the situation reversed in the future, would you stick to an agreement to turn down the engine and hold station, or would you ignore the call going by what happened today and pass Seb?
MW: I think that question is not going to be answered right now. Let’s just say there were a lot of things going through my mind in the last 15 laps of the Grand Prix, lots of different reasons, not just from today but also from the past. We’ll see what happens. We’ve got three weeks before the next race.

Q: (Gary Meenaghan - The National) Seb, Mark’s mentioned he thought about a lot of things for the last 15 laps, can you talk a bit about what you were thinking in those last 15 laps and when did you realise that you’d made the mistake?
SV: As I said, I didn’t do it deliberately so I didn’t realise I had made a mistake, only when I came back but by not everybody’s but the team’s reaction, I realised. I had a very short word with Mark and then it hit me quite hard and I realised that - language - I fucked up

Q: (Livio Oricchio - O Estado de Sao Paulo) A question to all drivers. What do you think the fans of Formula One will think when they hear or they read that the winner is saying “I’m sorry to win, the second should be here and the third says “I’m sorry to be here my team-mate that is fourth should be here”?
SV: I think it’s great for you because you have a lot to write about. We have quite a while until the next race it’s good for you, I’m sure you don’t get bored. I didn’t say, I think generally, you know I’m not sorry to win, I think we both of us drove a strong race today but Mark should have won. I did the mistake. I can only repeat it now. People can think in a way what they want, they will always make up their own story, but as I said I wasn’t aware until we took off our helmets really, so I’m sorry for that. But surely I will try to make up, first of all explain downstairs what happened.
MW: As I say, I’m a big sports fan and the fans of any sport will want it to be a perfect world always. We want it to be pure, we want it to be as we see - football, boxing, cycling, whatever. We want it to be real. But there is an element of naivety… for me watching some sport as well and in the case of some Formula One fans watching this situation. It’s impossible for everybody to understand everything and that’s the same for me watching a football match or a Champions League match. Sometimes there are things you don’t understand because sometimes there is naivety
LH: I don’t have anything to say.

I thought it was fantastic to see Vettel finally push Weber aside; a victory is earned, not alloted by management. The wheel-to-wheel racing they had going through thouse couple of corners was intense... great display of skill and cojones. At the end of the day, Webber is nowhere near as fast as Vettel and the right man won. Seb closed a good sized gap after his final pit stop and put a similar one between after just a few corners. It's a race, and fastest man left standing deserves to win... if you gamble you may win, or as was the case for Alonso you may not finish.

Shame to see Rossberg held up by Hamilton who didn't deserve a podium spot that he wouldn't have been able to otherwise maintain without those shady team orders. (Trying to glorify the 'star' acquisition's ego perhaps?)
