  • re-homing my dog :(

didn't really want to put this in the for sale section as i'm also trying to get the word out. maybe some of you could help, know someone, or are looking for a great dog for yourself.

    link to facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Findi...748?ref=stream

i'll add some more info tomorrow to this thread.

super bummed out. thanks for looking.

    from the FB page:

    Adopt a wonderful dog!

Looking for someone special to adopt our special little pitbull, Maggie.

Shes a sweet dog with a lot of personality and a LOT of love to give! She really loves her people! Maggie needs to be the only dog in the house, because that is how much love she has to give.

Shes not aggressive, but she doesn’t understand dog behaviour and dog body language. She had a rough little start to life about 2 years ago. In 2011, at the tender age of about 4-5 months, she was rescued from an animal hoarding / backyard breeding situation where 34 pitbulls were seized from a home in Calgary. Due to her background, she had a few issues that we have worked on diligently over the past year and she has made huge strides and great progress to overcome her rocky past.

Shes been to training, knows her basic commands, and is a quick and eager learner. She responds very well to clicker / reward based training. She loves walks, but is also content with being a homebody and hanging out on the couch or in the yard. She LOVES water and spent all last summer lazing around in her kiddie pool. Also LOVES playing fetch until your arm is too sore to throw the ball anymore.

We want Maggie to have the best possible life, cause we love her a lot! And, right now she is stressed out with our other dog in the house – they are not really meshing as we had hoped they would.

If you want to adopt the best little dog into your only dog home, look no further. This is the girl for you!

Shes up to date on vaccinations, groomed and nails trimmed, spayed, fully house trained - never had an accident in the house, despite us being away for up to 8 hours a day / 5 days a week. Maggie will bring with her all of her stuff - her kennel, leash, harness, bowl, treats, ball, bed, blankets - everything.

Only serious inquiries by responsible people with good attitudes need respond. No need to be experienced "dog people" but must have love to give!

                  Re: re-homing my dog :(

thanks you for all the kind words. she really is a special dog. the first post is updated with the information from the facebook page, in case you don't have FB or don't want to click the link. it answers some of your questions regarding Maggie and the reasons for finding her a new home.

but to summarize, she is the second dog i've rescued. i've had her for a year. her and my other dog don't seem to mesh well together. sometimes it happens. dog's just don't get along with each other. i think it's mostly my first dogs' issue but having the 2 of them and a surprise baby on the way, it isn't fair to keep them stressed together. she was born in a backyard breeder/hoarder house. there were 34 other pitbulls in the house, unoccupied by people :( here in calgary. she went to a shelter at about 4 months old. eventually she made her way to a foster house thru prairie pitbull rescue. after about 3 months there, we adopted her. she was about 14 months old then. because of her upbringing and lack of socialization skills and dog interaction, she has no manners and seems to have a hard time understanding other dog signals and signs. as a result of this, we feel she should be in an only dog home. breaks my heart and although we've done a bunch of work to manage the 2 dogs, it can't reduce the anxiety they have around each other.

kijiji discriminates against pitbull ads and i'm not really interested in having her go back to an agency or foster again. it's too much for her. the next place she goes has to be her furever home. i had hoped ours was.

Really sad story about the dog. Hopefully she will find a good home. But on a bit of a happier note...

The pitbull is sub breed of the American Staffordshire Terrier category, you should advertize it a such.

A roomate of mine had a large pitbull and I had a small ferret, one day we saw my ferret go into his cage, we both thought the ferret was going to be hurt, we shouldn't have worried. She went into his cage and nibbled on his toes to play with him, but he didn't understand the ferret way of playing, he was scared of her in and out of the cage lol. Turned out the alpha dog in the house was the ferret.

thanks for the tip about my dog's breed, but they discriminate against posting her as a staffie as well. they do not allow you to post pitbull, pitbull type, pitbull cross, pitbull mix or anything pitbull, staffie, bull terrier, etc...if your pictures resemble a pitbull type dog, they may also remove your ad. pitbull is simply another word for "mutt", in the these terrier type's of dogs. i'm hoping potential owners realize that clearly, she's not what is advertised lol! ultimately, she's a dog and it shouldn't matter what breed she is. she loves, likes love, likes people, and is really just a dog. any ******* can take any breed of dog and make them vicious. sad the media sensationalizes "pitbull attacks". as a pittie owner, you either become an ambassador for the breed, or you're just another thug looking to flex some muscle, IMO.

funny story about the ferret. they really are mostly curious, submissive dogs. mine are great around cats and kids. they even used to be called "america's nanny dog" :(
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

and the ad has been removed. thankfully, i received a few responses. the email states that the following breeds are not permitted on kijiji anywhere in canada,

                              dogo argentino
                              cane corso
                              presa canario
                              wolf hybrid
                              fila brasileiro
                              pit bull terrier
                              staffordshire bull terrier (staffy)
                              american staffordshire terrier (amstaff)
                              american pit bull terrier
any dog that is a mixed breed of these breeds, and has the characteristics substantially similar to pitbulls.

and blacks, whites, asians, middle easterners, aussies, the french and women.
