  • New lens?

Looking to get something new this year.

i have a canon 18-55 IS and the canon 55-250mm IS but swapping them is a huge pita on trips..

also have a tokina 11-16mm wide angle which is a freaking amazing lens too

but i'm looking to drop the 2 canons and get an all in one

i know there is the canon 18-200mm IS and its like 750 bucks

new ones are the tamron 18-270mm IS and its around 500-550 it seems

then the sigma 18-250mm IS and its about the same 500-550 it seems
    http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/...3-os-hsm-macro

reviews say the sigma is a bit better than the tamron and even both seem better than the canon now since the tamron is a 2011 model, the sigma is 2012 and the canon is a 2008 model

i'm extremely happy with my tokina thats why i'm looking at other alternatives from the OEM canon ones..

even Nikon released a new 18-300mm this year!!

anyone ever try one out or know anyone with one? i'm leaning probably towards the sigma since it has a slightly higher review than the tamron

also anyone have any good things to say about those mini rubbery tripods with flex legs or these gel pack ones called 'green pod' i would have loved one in south america for some of the shots i was taking

    Re: New lens?

I have the tamron 18-270 and its awesome for an all around travel lens. Not that great in lowlight for auto focusing but but if I do any low light shots I use my Nikon 50mm 1.4 or 12-24 1.4.

      Re: New lens?

i actually find my tokina amazing in low light although being wide angle. .with the F2.8 its awesome! screw around with the white balance even but overall its wicked for night shots.. i have some awesome ones of the cottage sky last summer with it

i just need something for travelling thats good for people, buildings, scenery and of course close ups without having to swap lenses. its just a pita..

alex is your tamron the new 2011 model? i guessed they updated it to have some newer stuff and better quality

the sigma is an all new design for 2012 which i like because it's new technology

the canon is good and glass is glass but its pretty old now and considering nikon put out the 18-300 makes me question if canon will too

My 60d came with the 18-200, it's good. I bought a 50mm lens and thats all I've been using lately, but it wouldn't be the best for shooting buildings.

I use the 18-135mm for just about everything. With the 5D I can get a lot of low light stuff, but I constantly bring my tripod with me if I know I'll be out after sunset.

I have the Nikon 18-300mm. It is a great lens for hiking. I only need to take one lens. Used to have to take an 18-55 and a 55-200.

You are a traveling man this year!!!

Interested in your views on Greece going in low season and with the economic turmoil. Sarah and I want to go back but just seems the timing is not good especially as we want to head to a small island that was not easy to get too before the crisis. Watch out for the lads if you are going to Malia!!
