Looking for a new bike this year. Kind of looking at the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR. Should I go for a 26" or 29" wheel. I am about 5' 7" with a 29" inseam. Give me reasons for both.

What kind of riding do you do? I would say the fsr is a good choice mainly because it is what I ride. I chose the 26" solely based on it being what I was used to riding on my past bikes

I say since your paying all that money, find a bike shop that you like and have them fit you to the bike. Let them tell you what size you need and start there.

youre not giving us ANYTHING to go on here.

first what kind of riding do you do primarily, how much do you ride, and how would you rate your expertise?
        second, whats your budget.

lets start there before you presuppose a bike then ask why its good or bad for you. you gave us nothing to work with

Looking for an all around full suspension bike. Mostly for trails around Bragg or Kananaskis. I am looking to replace a 13 year old Trek VRX 400LT.

New or used? I'll be selling my 2008 Stumpjumper in the spring/now. I'm going with a Giant Trance-X 29er.

You really need to get out and ride them, I had my mind set one one bike until I rode it, it just didn't fit.

                      Re: 2013 Bikes

Might get some hate but check out the higher end bikes sold by bikesdirect.com

I ordered a bike form them about a year and a half ago and overall very happy about the purchase. People can't believe what I paid when I tell them and they see the bike, even bike shop pros when I have had it serviced.

Basically they build bikes overseas with name brand components, and cut a few corners. For example on my road bike I had to buy a replacement stem and a replacement seat and some grip tape right from the get-go. But I was fine with that considering the price.

The frames are usually same-factory back door specials or else knock offs depending on the models. However the road bike I bought had an all aluminum frame and I had it checked over by a local shop and they gave it the thumbs up, right next to a Giant frame they had in stock they could not tell them apart.

But I think even replacing a frame might be worth it on some of the bikes. Look at the value of the components you are getting and worst case I figure you can always swap them to a slight used frame and still be ahead.

If you care about the brand of the bike and just need to be seen with a Trek or something then thats a different story.

haha so you pulled the trigger on the flatline i see.
                            looks good.

Im sticking with the TR450 for 2013, changing a few things like seat (its thrashed after 10 straight days at whistler in the rain) and i'm debating swapping my out my M810 saint short cage rear derailleur for a new m820 saint with the clutch system to reduce the chain slap. I velcro tape my right rear stays and i had to redo it twice last year just due to the amount of riding i did. Clutch system should eliminate that altogether, but for $350 for everything dont know if i care enough. Just redid my brakes with new saint stuff replacing the old saints, so it'll be stopping like a freight train again. 4 full sets of pads last season got toasted and o-rings were starting to go on the rears.

Myers we're doing that retarded trip again this year and you're welcome to link in with us if you want. Friday of Canada Day long week to the following Sunday, doing 4 days in Whistler, 2 days sun peaks, 2 days silverstar, 2 days kicking horse. Hoping to crush 200,000' this time upping the ante from the 150,000 we threw down last year.
