Rotiform vs Dare/MS Alloy

In the market for some new wheels, been doing quite a bit of research on the Roti BLQ's, and during that process, I have stumbled upon some Replicas. Did a quick Google search and found a massive VWvortex thread (flooded with the usual, highschool girl **** talk like all their threads) on TRUE Roti's vs Replicas. Apparently, some of the replica's are manufactured/shipped by the same original factory - for about 3/4 of the cost of true Roti's and obviously different center caps. I've been quoted around $1300 from Rotiform for 18x8.5 et35 BLQ's, shipped to my door. The rep's are around $900-$1000 shipped to my door. I've heard MANY, MANY stories on how some replicas can be garbage over the years (ie. the finish, etc.) however, saving just over $300 would be a huge bonus, and allow for some other mods. Does anyone care to shed some light on this matter? I've always preferred to go with quality, but these particular wheels have mixed reviews.

I'd say you're safe running the knockoffs. A lot of wheel companies share the same wheel molds, VMR, Miro, Raderwerks, etc. for example.

That being said, where do you buy these wheels?!

I'd say you're safe running the knockoffs. A lot of wheel companies share the same wheel molds, VMR, Miro, Raderwerks, etc. for example.

That being said, where do you buy these wheels?!

The Dare Alloy's are all over eBay - from the UK.

i agree that you would be fine running reps, although, for the 300 extra bucks or whatever, it might be worth it to buy real Rotiforms. You are pretty much guaranteed a good set of wheels and it will also help in the resale of the wheels once you are done with them.

Although I'm sure replicas are fine, a lot of the time when I have heard the 'they make them in the same factory' thing, I've dug deeper and found out that that was false. MANY times I've done the research and it's just been people starting a rumor to justify themselves against haters.

Worth mentioning as well.. if something does happen to the wheels Id rather have a North American company to deal with.

I have a set of BBS CH reps and the quality isnt even close. Paint chips very easily.. but then again I bought a whole set for less then the price of a wheel. For a $300 difference I would go with the real deal. Or wait for a sale.

the Dare's aren't, but the MS alloys are.

All of the cast Rotiform wheels are made in china FYI. No different than any other chinese wheel, just an extra few hundred bucks for some marketing.

I have seen some BLQ reps here in the UK in person and they do not look nearly as nice as genuine Rotiform's however for the Nue's I would think that is easier to pass off, but I would still buy from them direct and maybe just try and wait for a sale.

As stated, the replica's would probably be fine. But take the advise of the others and buy the real thing. Saving 300$ overall isnt that big of a saving when it comes to the resale value and the quality of them. When you're looking at $900 per wheel vs $200 per wheel, thats a big saving so its harder to justify the real thing. In this case I would go with true rotiform!

Just FYI the faces on the cast BLQ's scratch fairly easily. So make sure to take care of them.
