  • Here's a fun little game while you're bored!

Now that i've lured you into the dungeon.......

    Hi Everyone,

Since the forums have been dead for the past few days, I figured I’d give the community a bit of a challenge and ask for some help. I’m having a hard time determining what tires I want to run with my summer wheels on the E30. Right now its sitting on stock basketweaves (15x7.5) with 205/55R15 tires. The new wheels are 16x8 front and 16x9 rear. I’m looking to get a little bit of stretch, nothing too retarded, and I want to minimize wheels gap.

For what its worth, I was first set on running a 195/45R16 Front and 215/40R16 Rear. Then after I realized my calculation is off, this tire combo would be 25mm smaller than stock. Since the front bumper is already only 4.5” off the ground, I don’t want to really go too much lower (I'd rather let the suspension do that than the tires). Plus with a smaller tire, I will have more wheel gap.

Now after recalculating and wanting to stick closer to stock size, I’ve been thinking about 195/50R16 Front and 215/45R16 Rear. This is only about 5-6mm smaller than stock. But would this be too much sidewall to get a decent stretch? Don’t want it lookin too funny.

What tire size would you guys recommend? Post pics and specs if you have them. For reference, this is the car they are going on…

    Thanks in advance!

225/40 in the rear would be cool.

I think 195/45 would be a decent stretch for the fronts on a 8 and if you want a bit more go 40. I think 50 might be to much sidewall and have little or no stretch.

      or 45

rears i'd do 40 on the sidewalls

How low are you planning on going/do you NEED stretch. if you are going to not be slammed then maybe try to stick away from the stretched tires, it looks like those wheel wells have plenty of room in them for regular/slighty smaller than regular sized tires

If I did go lower, I really wouldnt want to go more than about 0.5-1 inch lower at the max. The problem with the wheel wells is that they will most likely need rolling/pulling with agressive offsets, so the stretch will help for sure.

Ideally if I could get it lookin like this, it would be prime. I'm pretty sure these are 16's, but not sure on the tire size.

However I believe he has a front lip splitter which is making him lower in the front.

The wheels on that car are like 11" wide in the back so even if you find the tire size its not gonna help.

I would run a 205/50/16 in the front and a 215/45/16 in the rear. That will be the closest to stock rolling diameter without ridiculous amounts of stretch.

Martin, are you sure you're not confusing this car with "felgenmans" E30???

I know Felgenman's is 16x9.5 front and 16x11 rear, do you think the one posted above is 11 wide as well?

Might be thinking of a different car. Either way, I'm sure it's wider than a 9" with a lip that big.

I have 225/50/15's on my E30 (15x8 rims). Rear fender had to be rolled a bit to keep them from rubbing. And yes the rear tire was on the wrong side, I was just test fitting to see how much I needed to roll the fender.

I want to run 16x8 front 16x9 rear on my early model e30. Still undecided on tire size. I just have Eibach springs, and am looking more for handling than looks, so I probably won't have any stretch at all. Still will be interested to see what you go with.

After lookin at pics, I think i'm gonna go 205/45 and 225/40. This guys E30 Vert is on 16x7.5 w/ 205/45R16 and 16x9 w/ 225/40R16 and I think it looks great. They rears would be the same, and the fronts on mine would have slightly more stretch.

I know the tires will still be a bit smaller than stock overall, but I can live with this size I think

That looks good! That particular car has some bad reverse rake going on though.

I think it has to do with the rear arches being lower then the front, which gives the car the look of reverse rake.
